In another thread, I just learned that the song "Born Under a Bad Sign" was written by William Bell and Booker T. Williams, and first recorded by Albert King.

What other artists have recorded this song?

What is your favorite version?

Cream (Earache Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker) did a pretty good version of it.

Cream’s version is great—I like Bruce’s vocal—but, for me, Albert King’s version remains definitive. :thmbsp:

A better question might be, who hasn't. I concur, Albert King's version is the definitive one (most covers try to sound like his version). As far as electric blues go, I'd guess it's probably in the top ten blues covers in popularity. What local blues band doesn't have a version?

Yep, pretty much every blues singer, ever. And Albert's is still the one.

Laith Al-Saadi did a nice job with it at the Fest.

Albert King... With Albert's version, he so owns the song, that it's impossible not to believe it.

That's probably Booker T. Jones, not Williams. Stax house band organist
and the namesake of Booker T and the MGs.

glum asked about Kings band on "Born Under a Bad Sign."
Well, Booker T. Jones, Cropper, Dunn, and Jackson were known as Booker T. & the MGs ("Green Onion") and were the Stax Records house band throughout the 60s. They backed Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and many lesser artists during this time.
