Was at my local St Vincents today, looking around the back shed, nothing to see, just some BPC speakers. Was walking back into the main building, past the dumpster and something took my eye, turned it over, its a Sansui SR-212 . I know this is nothing spectacular, but cosmetically its real nice. I pull it out (the TT that is, fnarr, fnarr), go over to the manager he says, "it dosent work, take it" Looks like it just needs a new belt. Pics to come if anyone is interested (batteries flat)

Anyone have cart recomendations?

cheers
steve

I think that's the model of one I saved from a thrift store. It had a wierd belt that had completely turned to goo inside, and the replacement belt I got played to fast (was thicker, slightly too tight even though it was the recommended belt). I gave it to a TT fixer friend and he said he'd run into that on a lot of Sansuis, and he solved it by stretching the belts with weights before putting them on. Who knows...I'm only repeating what he told me.

Belts might be available at TurnTableNeedles.com with free shipping? Get one of the $17 yellow AT carts off eBay as a tester. If speed is OK, you can upgrade to whatever you want. No point in spending for cart if table is bad?

I got the belt for my SR-2050C from Bob: http://www.vintage-electronics.cc/vbelts.html

Nice belt, speed is right on. I think the SR-212 is similar enough that you might luck out and it may take the same belt.

Awesome man!!! If the table does work an AT95sa from lpgear.com is a great choice. I have one on my SR-535, which has a similar mass arm and it sounds awesome on that table, better than any cart I've heard under 200 bux. Good luck with your new table, Nick

Yep, I second this place. And they carry the belt for the SR-2050C.

Scrounged an old belt from the pile, oiled the bearings replaced the headshell with one with an AT CN5625AL ready mounted, set the tracking weight and away we go. I must say I am quietly impressed with this, considering the cheap cart and lack of setting up. The Sansui will replace the Dual CS-503 which has been my mainstay for the last 6 months or so. Mrs Caddis is well pleased, very high WAF on the Sansui. :thmbsp:

Now all I need to do is put on the AT95e, set it all up and have some fun :music:

Man I love free shit!

Ooh gotta go "Back on the Borderline" just started (Midnight Oil, not Maddonna :D)
