That's the coolest thing I have seen in a long time.
I would love to walk in our local WW Granger industrial supply house and ask for a set of barrel fuses for my turntable. The look would be priceless.:D

As for that turntable, as VD said, I WANT THAT THING!
That would be a very fun thing to clean up and restore. Room for a few tweaks, but basically that is one heck of a "battleship" of a TT. Ironically, those old beasts are usually among the best TTs there are, for some of the same reasons that Garrard 301s in massy plinths are popular: they keep stable speed with massive torque, utterly un-fazed (unphased? :D) by needle drag. Motor vibrations can be an issue, but usually aren't a big deal given the massive "sinks" they are bolted to, and can be tweaked down to negligible levels/frequencies with judicious use of rubber gaskets, platter mats, etc... [Much of that is already engineered into them.] Large bearings swimming in oil and massive platters do wonders, and the build quality on this is... well, with the occasional oil change and re-soldering, your great-grandkids can enjoy this thing!
Did you notice the solenoid-driven rubber brake on the thing? The coil on that is bigger than the transformer coil in any of my TTs, I think... and those fuses... and the oil-level window... and all that heavy metal... YEP, I LOVE IT! :thmbsp:
:scratch2: Only $350 to have it delivered to my door here in Hong Kong. Wonder what it will sell for... Hhhmmm... Oh, I almost forgot the WAF thing: how much does a divorce cost? :tears:

Just guessing here, I've never seen one before - but are you sure that's a brake? Maybe it engages the drive wheel for 78 rpm? The two horizontal motors may drive the platter through the gear box for the 33 and 45 rpm speeds since the ratios could be fairly close. The 78 rpm speed would have been not often used by most stations, hence the more 'tacked-on' approach with the rubber drive on the flywheel. I would love to have it, wish it were closer.
BTW: I've often noodled around in my cranium about a hydraulic drive, viscous suspension TT, with a super heavy platter and a hydrostatic bearing. Anybody ever hear of such a beast?

Wow, but the sight glass says the oil level is low, unless you check it with the thing running.
I wonder if the house lights dim when you hit the ON button?
What a machine. Under $10, but gotta do a local pickup.

Yikes, you are right! Somehow the first time I looked at it, my eyes played a trick on me, and I thought that black rubber thing was odd-shaped, not round. That's why my brain interpreted it as some kind of brake. Had I seen correctly that it was round, I wouldn't have made such a dumb boo-boo. Thanks for pointing it out! :thmbsp:

The price might get stupid... but have you asked the seller if he has a "buy it now" price in mind? I don't see any "unit is available for sale locally" notice, though, so he probably intends for the auction to run its full course.

I found this and set up a snipe on it before I saw this thread. Had sent an email about local pickup as well. It's within a long but reasonable drive from here.
Similost - if you're really serious about it let me know and I'll call off my snipe. Where would we expect this thing to go price wise anyway?

In speaking with the seller, he's moving to California, and has an almost identical unit which he's already got out there with some crazy SME arm . . .
I'm pretty sure it'll run its course

Go ahead and leave your snipe on it.. I've got a good idea what the value is to me, as I'm sure you do also... so.. highest bidder will win... You may have a higher price than I have in mind, so if you remove yours, then a chance we would both miss out..

I could probably make it there in time.. .I don't know.. this may get to be more than I am willing to pay to. I was hoping the shipping and crating would keep it cheap, but I have a feeling it's not... Right now, I think the price is still a deal for what you are getting..
