It could be....a 500c? It could be....cheap plastic '80s? It could be....something from the '90s, as "old school" is different if you're 15 years old?
Somebody call and ask, I'm too lazy. And if it's an 800 tube receiver, drop it off at my door please.
Happy Friday...

I just picked it up and it's a 500c with the cabinet in great shape.
All original tubes and they test strong.
No, just kidding. I'm too lazy too.

Well, yeah, but it's still annoying that people don't bother to put a model number and approximate age. And sometimes they're asking for a lot more than 30 bucks.

Might be fun to email them and say, "I see you have something for sale. I might give you something for it." :D

That's how I got my Pioneer sx-1280...ad said "big Pioneer receiver, must weigh 100lbs".
Well, says I, how many Pioneer receivers would cause a guy to think he's hoisting 100lbs.? Went, offered short money, and came home very happy. Of course it helped that the guy was 5 minutes from the house...

I've taken chances like this on free stuff. Sometimes they pay off. Sometimes you get there, find it's wrapped in a black plastic bag, decide that since it might rain, leave the bag on, take two busses and walk a mile, only to the find that you've been carrying a mid nineties Fisher that's actually rusting.
If I had known I could have just left it in the first dumpster.

You have to wonder why they tell you how many others have asked about it.. maybe if they would give some info, they wouldn't spend all their time answering e-mail.. I think some people are just lonely..

Not really; the writer is just grabbing a number.
I've seen lots of tube stuff tossed on a curb, so you never can tell.
It's certainly worth an inquiry

New York Lottery's advertising line used to be "Hey, you never know...."
I got my EPI 400s w/Dynaco ST-150 amp, preamp, and other random stuff from an ad that said "Stereo Equipment 4 sale" and something about Dad's old speakers. Someone actually beat me to responding, but didn't want to drive deep into Chicago's very sketchy South Side to get it. Cowards. Those speakers are worth risking your life! I'm assuming, anyway, as I've yet to refoam them.

And I just did a mapquest. That 'old school receiver' is almost in Indiana. I don't care if it's an 800c, I'm definately too lazy for that.

If the seller lacks the eye for detail to put down a simple model number, he is probably not a very good care taker of the equipment to begin with. Just keep moving along..

My friend Derek got his Technics TT this way, for $75.
A miss-written ad number, minimal info.
Turned out it was an SL-1100 with SME 3009 arm and rare metal plinth instead of more typical wood plinth.
Glad he did, because he sold it to me for the same $75.
And my pal Lou got Thiels listed nondescript as "tower speakers" for $50. Glad, because I got his other pair for cheap.
I've seen a late 90's receiver and tape deck called "old skool" and with a $300 pricetag on it.
I've also seen nondescript quality 70's vintage gear listed for $30 and with claims of it being "not that old".
One never knows.
But I'm not going to Indiana to find out on this one.
