It's a 5-disc with play x-change but it has issues. The tray will get stuck in or out or close only half way. I'm going to open it up and see what I might be able to do. All I know from google is it was about $240 new in 1993, and made in Japan (usually a good sign). Other than tray issue, it seems good quality.
Anyone know of this model # cdp-c435 or have an idea what could be wrong?

Nice find. The tray issue sounds mechanical, which will be nice and easy to fix. Probably just needs a dab of grease on the drawer rails and a new belt...
I second the lube and belt fix.

If all is lost, scrap it for the little parts like screws, etc. I've done that with non-working CD changers, laser disc players, etc. I got some way cool brass screws off of a Pioneer LD like that. They were hopeless as someone had tried to gouge them open and weren't repairable. I figure $2 for a bunch of little screws wasn't a bad deal. But if you can fix it, all the better!

Damn, that trumps my $3.00 one yesterday.
Well, maybe not as mine works flawlessly :D
BTW, Congrats! While you're at it, you should probably clean the lens with a Q-Tip if you pop the hood.

DOH!!! I can be such dunce. Thanks for that tip Andyman.
I had my beloved Luxman cdp sitting on the sideline because it would not read cd's. This was my first hifi purchase I ever made the year I graduated (1990). I thought the laser was busted and never thought to try cleaning the lens...worked like a charm.

Here's a clip of what the cd player does. All I did was hit power and it does that automatically. And no matter what I push it won't stop. When the tray appears fully closed it actually sticks out about 1/4".

A few other yard sale finds ($4.75):

Here is video from behind. The 'bottom half' doesn't go up no matter if a cd is in or not. I was able to move it up by hand shown in pics below. If I push play it has no effect and the tray continues in/out, over and over. This seems to be electrical, and there's probably little chance of fixing it. What do ya'll think?

Anybody have an idea what's wrong? No 5-disc cdp specialists on here? If there's no easy fix, I'm gonna sell it cheap. Maybe I'll make a few dollars off it. I saw a similar model player on craigslist for $150 so it'd be nice to get it working.
