Hi everyone,
Recently purchased my first tube amp, a brand new JoLida JD 202A with all-around EH tube complement.
How long should I wait before using it the amp once it's powered up? Right away? a couple minutes?
Also, is it normal that it takes a few seconds before sound can be heard?
I told you, newb questions...
Thanks!

Yes, it will take a while before sound will start flowing through them. THe tubes have to heat up and charge.
Myself, I have a signal flowing into them when I power them on.. usually turned down low. Yeah, I know I'm risking speakers, but I never turn my system off with much volume on it.

Dan, most tubes take only 10 to 15 seconds to "warm up" to speed. I don't like to have a signal running through my amps when powering them up. I usually wait about 30 seconds before running a signal through them.
I was told years ago, from a long forgotten source, that with tubed guitar amps (many which have standby switches), the power tubes should have at least 2 minutes of warm up before running a signal through them.

Good advice. Thanks!

Hi Dan, I was about to say welcome to AK, but them I saw you have been here almost three years.
Congratulations on the new Jolida JD 202A. You are going to enjoy it.
I just got the Jolida 502BRC myself from AK sponsor BrianB at Venus Hi-Fi.
What you noticed is normal. The tubes should be allowed to warm up a few seconds to a few minutes before putting a heavy signal through them. Depends on what your amp likes, you’ll get to know.
You may also notice (or not) that the sound may change a bit as the amp warms up and stabilizes. How much if any, and how long it takes, depends on the amp again.
Let us know how the new amp works out for you.

Sure will, thanks!
I've been watching this great site from a distance, sending a PM here and there for specific questions. I shall participate a lot more as new questions will come I'm sure. Lots of knowledgeable persons here.

Fairly new to tubes less than a year; but veteran toobie taught me the amp is the last component to be turned on and the first to be turned off. I also use the mute button if available before turn off and when changing records.
