I have always wanted to see Tortoise live and it looks like they will be playing at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor Thursday Sept 4.
I know it is a stretch, but I am wondering if there are any other Tortoise fans in the SMAC group?
Has anyone seen them and how are their live shows?

Sounds interesting! I've got a few things on vinyl from them that I like alot, that and the whole Chicago thing that they hang with. I'll have to see if it fits in my calendar. Very cool, Let's talk

If you like Tortoise, you should really check out Stereolab (http://www.stereolab.co.uk/)! John McIntire produced three of their more recent albums. They're touring the US in October and November to support their August release "Chemical Chords".
The number of bands these people have collaborated with should make and post-rock enthusiasts heart beat faster: Sea and Cake, Ui, High Llamas, Monade, Wilco, Sonic Youth, Belle and Sebastian, and countless more.
Go see Tortoise live!

IMHO stereolab set the pace for the 90's and were a major inspiration for a whole list of bands yet to come. They broke albums of new ground.
I would agree the Sea & Cake, Sam Prekop, Shrimp Boat, etc are all worth while persuits from the same rich Chicago indie seen. Let's throw some not from the windy city Galaxie 500, Mercury Rev, Yo La Tengo, and Luna(2) in the mix of low profile indie super groups also worth digging for. There's lots to listen to.
Someone needs to repress the Luna albums to vinyl, their getting pretty tough to come by in anything but a totally spent copy for way too many dollars.
I had the pleasure of seeing both Luna and Yo La Tengo live in our area.

I don't have any Tortoise. Need to get some, I'm a post-rock geek. Do Make Say Think, anyone?
