View Full Version : Do you like The Boss?
fmueller 07-12-2008, 12:10 PM I think the previous owner of this LP must have held a fair grudge against the man :lazer:

Stanton681EEES 07-12-2008, 03:50 PM Either that or he really pissed of his girlfriend

Either that or he should have used a heavier tracking force.
Tinman 07-12-2008, 04:27 PM It'll buff out. :D
Strawman 07-12-2008, 04:27 PM The quarter on the needle must not been enough with the loudness and cass cranked up. :scratch2:
Mr. Lin 07-12-2008, 04:35 PM The quarter on the needle must not been enough with the loudness and cass cranked up. :scratch2:
:D
Did you play it? I've had records look that bad and still sound fine, believe it or not. Wouldn't try it with an expensive cartridge though.
Doug G. 07-12-2008, 04:35 PM I have always thought Springsteen is over-rated but I would never ever do that to an LP. :nono:
Not even a Barry Manilow LP. :D

mhardy6647 07-12-2008, 04:51 PM It's a terrible sounding LP... that modification might make it sound better.

It doesn't - I checked! I am a self confessed dumpster diver, and I am frequently amazed how good some previously mistreated LPs can sound once they have been properly cleaned up. I have a couple of Beatles LPs that I bough without sleeve, and they cleaned up very nicely indeed. But this one is not salvageable in my opinion. The noise that scratch produces ain't pretty! It is very deep.
I had the thought of the vengeful girlfriend as well. I don't see how a scratch like that could have possibly been inflicted by accident. :headscrat

mike shaw 07-12-2008, 05:42 PM IMO, that's the best thing that could be done to a Springsteen album!
Saratoga48 07-12-2008, 05:42 PM It couldn't make him sound any worse. The man's voice irritates the hell out of me.
Cadillac Kid 07-12-2008, 05:51 PM 'Born To Run' is a rock classic.
GoMizzou1954 07-12-2008, 06:19 PM Might have been somebody's rug rat. Right after he pushed in the dust caps on the speakers.

Not even a Barry Manilow LP.
Doug
I would.
My respect for the medium won't allow it. :D
Gosh, I thought I was going to be lambasted for saying Springsteen is over-rated but you other guys are way crueler.:D

hakaplan 07-13-2008, 03:53 PM Wow, that looks exactly like what I did to mine! Which GW did you get that from?

Looks like it has a ways to go.
Andyman 07-13-2008, 07:35 PM I like Side One the best anyway...
Mystic 07-13-2008, 07:46 PM That might be the ube- rare autographed version of the LP.
Filmboydoug 07-13-2008, 08:01 PM IMO, that's the best thing that could be done to a Springsteen album!
Nah, I'd have melted it into an ashtray.
Red Stick 07-13-2008, 10:06 PM I like Side One the best anyway...
IMHO, "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" is one of his best:thmbsp:
Andyman 07-13-2008, 10:20 PM IMHO, "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" is one of his best:thmbsp:
I'm a sucker for "Thunder Road" myself.
Actually, I like that LP a lot as the only time I saw Bruce was on that tour and at the classic Milwaukee Bomb Scare show.
It was a very good time :D
Bradrock 07-13-2008, 10:37 PM It couldn't make him sound any worse. The man's voice irritates the hell out of me.
I agree:thmbsp: Never could understand his popularity. I mean hell........when you get down to it " Tiny Tim" had more musical talent, & A better voice:banana::banana:
Cadillac Kid 07-13-2008, 10:42 PM Never was a big fan of Tiny Tim or Lawrence Welk. But Bruce has done some damn fine stuff, IMHO.
Funny we thought it might have been a jealous girl or a bratty toddler defacing the vinyl, but after reading the posts, it could have been a AK'er. :yikes:
tentoze 07-13-2008, 10:48 PM Any posters in this thread ever bother to read the motto on the masthead at the top of every forum page?
ryson2 07-14-2008, 12:35 AM ie: Bruce Springsteen. "I mean hell........when you get down to it " Tiny Tim" had more musical talent, & A better voice" Bradrock 7/14/08
no comment on second thought.
avionic 07-14-2008, 12:49 AM What tracks were trashed..
The River is one of my favorites. 10th Ave.Freeze out Rocks also..
theophile 07-14-2008, 01:24 AM I'm not such a big fan of Born to Run.I have four of the Boss' albums(Greetings from Ashbury Park,Born to Run,Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Tunnel of Love)
I really like 'Darkness'.
Other tastes might vary(GOD bless 'em). :D
Saint Johnny 07-14-2008, 01:31 AM Not even one mention for, 'The Wild, The Innocent, And The E Street Shuffle'?:scratch2:
Not even one mention for, 'The Wild, The Innocent, And The E Street Shuffle'?:scratch2:
Yes, the funkiest album. Would you believe that Nebraska and the ...Shuffle were written by the same person?
I'm a fan since 1978 when I heard the Darkness. I then seeked the previous albums, and although Born to Run was available, I had to specially order the first two. Cost me a fortune. And also was hard to find they even existed. No internet back then.... Information on anything was hard to find...
Anyway my sister, mother, girlfriends, wife (now) all hate Bruce's voice. Even my "soulmate" LP collector for years never bothered to listen to one.
2DualsNotEnough 07-14-2008, 03:22 AM Im a huge Springsteen fan,and BTR is one of my favorites, but I agree,it does sound like shit. Most of the album sounds almost mono, and engineered by someone who thought they were the next Phil Spector.

Not even a Barry Manilow LP. :D
Doug
How about a Julio Iglesias LP? :uzi:
secretsenor 07-14-2008, 08:05 AM I reckon "The river" is a pretty good song. Never thought I'd say it in public. My usual listening taste is quite different.
Over here in Australia I guess we have Jimmy Barnes - He really divides opinions as well. His solo work is best left alone, but I rate his early work with cold chisel - Well some of it.
Although I like the idea of "No attitude", some of the comments were pretty funny.
I reckon we are all grown up enough to accept a joke for what it is.
Best album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle
followed by Born to Run and Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. after that, not so much.:D
thesink77 07-14-2008, 08:55 AM I just bought a copy of Tunnel of Love for $4 at Half Price Books, despite the goofy looking tie he's wearing. Of course I'm also the guy who bought a "clearance" copy of Escape by Journey for 50 cents. :scratch2:
Saint Johnny 07-14-2008, 12:58 PM Best album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle
followed by Born to Run and Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. after that, not so much.:D
:thmbsp:
I totally agree, I love the first 3, they are the best, and all 3 are absolutely mandatory. After that less so. Although Darkness has grown on me over the past 30 years.
Greetings-He was trying to be Dylan.
Wild, Innocent-He was trying to be Van Morrison.
BTR-He finally started being Bruce.
ScramMan2 07-14-2008, 01:03 PM Born To Run has been maxed-out on FM, that must be the reason!
