The power transformer on my Yamaha RX-1100 starts making a "vibrational buzz" after it warms up. Not real loud but definitely noticeable. Is this a chassis/mounting issue or is the transformer going bad:scratch2:. Thanks

Either a mounting issue or a loose core lamination. If the cores are bolted together you can try tightening the bolts. If its a mounting issue you can try tightening the bolts. The transformer will still function properly either way just be a little noisy..Does not mean transformer is crapping out. But to silence the buzz it ..might !!! might !! mean replacing the xformer if you just can't live with the noise.

This is much better than driving a stake through it!

LOL! I took me 2 days to figure out why you would want to drive a stake through it!

It's an evil blood sucking transformer!

Hope you fix it.

Well my understanding is this: for something that drives you crazy, you can say it's a bloodsucker. Vampires are bloodsuckers. How do you kill a vampire? Put a stake through it.

But then again, I could be totally wrong...

Are you sure its a mechanical hum? I've read that transformers can become "saturated" and get a bit noisy, perhaps that is what's going on.

Hand applied pressure stops the buzz. A spike would also...
