I just acquired a Pioneer TX-8100 Tuner. I am going to clean up the controls and dial glass etc.

So, I opened up the unit this morning and saw 2 wires that were not connected 1 was attached to the Fixed output of the Tuner with a resistor on it. The other goes to the FM board somewhere. They are labeled 'H' and 'V'. The tuner works fine, but I am using the Variable output at this time. I don't know whether the fixed output works or not.

Does anyone have a clue as to what these two wires were for and what the 'H' and 'V' might stand for?

Here is a Picture

I suggest you visit the Pioneer Audio forum and download the hi-res service manual. It shows the multipath h and v scope connections on the back of the tx-8100.

ham multipath article, with pictures of scope displays:

just the pictures, no multipath:

But that duct tape means somebody was &$&^%^ around inside of the unit.... in that case all bets are off.

Hint: watch the display and rotate the antenna for the straightest line of rx signal, thus the cleanest audio.

Thanks for the reply. And yes, I know what Multipath is. I could not find the link to the manual you referred to, but There is also no scope connections on the back of the tuner either.

So, If I had to make a guess, the person the was fiddling around in the back of the unit made his own scope connections to adjust his antenna. Probably harmless, as the unit works perfectly.
