View Full Version : Infinitesiminals with 902-0470?

I notice the listed Infinity replacement for the original dual voice-coil Watkins in the Infinitesimals is the single coil 902-0470 which is used in the rest of the Reference '78 series as a mid-range.

I imagine they don't get down as low as the NLA Watkins or perhaps even whatever was used in the 0.3 Infinitesimals (was this the 902-0470?)

I'm musing over a project to make some replicas as the 902-0470 and the EMITs are still occasionally available.

Has anyone used these as a replacement? Are they radically inferior to the originals?

I have no first hand knowledge but as a stand alone 2 way speaker my guess is they would be rather weak on the low end. Throw in a powered subwoofer and you might have something.

Yes I'd probably use it as a satellite anyway.

I'm thinking it'd be identical to the Infinitesimal 0.3 - I guess there's only one way to find out...

I'm also guessing that somewhere in the world there's a more equal replacement for those magical little 5" Watkins in the original Infinitesimals.
