Hello,
This is my first post here. I got this power amp with a dead channel and while doing some basic checking found a one board with burned resisters and some diodes that may have been taken out in the process. I have the schematic, but am fairly new to working on these things. I replaced the resisters and the diodes and turned it on to have on of the new resisters start smoking. Re-replaced it and removed the 32-070 transister from the circuit and found it shorted. Looked on this forum and found that I could replace it with a mj15003s and went to Fry's (ugh) and bought their equivalent (just to test with, I will order the right ones). They only had one so I think I will have to wait till the real deals get here. The amp still has one channel out.
I would like to know what else I should prepare for. In particular is there anything elso on the power output boards I whould replace? What about the accompaning transisters to the 32-070's which looks like a 023-139. If I do need to replace them does anyone know the current number for their replacements?
One other thing I'd like to know. There are a couple of transistors that were near the forrest fire that the resisters became. This is on the power output boards (q13,q14,q15,q16). I have the original schematic from McIntosh (and have seen it all over the web-thank you god for creating the web and Google). The problem is the parts page does not list the actual manufactures part number (fairchild I believe) for those transistors. Also what about the diodes? I used 16's but the original may have been 22's (fairchild 1n914?). Will this make a difference.
Is there a god and if so Why isn't everything McIntosh?
