I just picked this deck at the local Goodwill for $25 and they assured me that it powered it. However, if didn't come with a power cord. Do any of you guys know if Radio Shack carries one that would work? The warranty is only 48 hours so I want to pick one up today or tomorrow. As always thanks in advance!

Well, Radio Shack doesn't carry them. I guess my only hope is Frys or possibly the local shop that repairs vintage audio components. Fingers crossed.

Isn't this the cord for the Teac "A" Series?

You should be able to find a cord like that at any hardware store that will work. (single input.. ungrounded)
For testing.. you could rig up an AC cord using slide connectors. Standard size sliders will fit AC prongs.. for that matter - you could just make your own cord using those.. I've done it many times. Connect the Tape Deck side first before plugging it in!

yep, that's the one
do you really think a hardware store will have one? Fry's nor Radio Shack didn't have any...I guess I'll make some phone calls tomorrow...thanks!

Sure.. The female end is just a standard AC plug (probably sans the oversize neutral-slot) Even if its a little big or has those stupid fins they put on cords these days you can cut it down to fit. A lot of movie projectors used the same type of cord. Silly question.. but did you look in Goodwill's bin of power cords to see if it might be in there? If all else fails.. go with the slider trick. You can get a pack of insulated female sliders at radio shack for a couple dollars. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104018&cp=2032058.2032231.2032283&pg=1&parentPage=family

I had the same prob w/ my 2300s.
I pulled a IEC recepticle from an old PC powersupply and removed the 2 prong orig from the TEAC. its an exact fit and free, prob $1 at radio shack then you can use any hi quality IEC cable.
I think Oat street (oak tree ? ) audio sells the cable for like $20:scratch2:

prolly sounds like the best option
as for how they know it powers up if there is no power cord...that is a good question...one I asked myself...the response was "We must have lost the power cord after they tested it." :D

Just make you own or change the bulkhead plug to a modern round pin style. Or, solder a cord to the spades and slug it with RTV. Depends on how much you want to keep the original look and fittings?
