I just inherited a technics sl-bl3. When i go to cue a record the needle moves but the record does not start rotating. Is this definitely a problem with the belt? If so when I purchase a belt is this a repair that I can do without any prior work with turntables? I dont want to spend money on replacement parts until im certain whats wrong with it. Thanks

Well, lift off the platter and see if the belt is broken or missing. If so, see if the small brass pulley turns when you move the arm. If it does, then all you need is a belt. If not, maybe a different problem.

The belt is 23.2 and available here: http://www.turntablebasics.com/belts/technics.html

does the pull look like a flat wheel that rotates rapidly? I think thats it. I found a little piece of what i think might be the belt. Its very thin and rubbery. is that it? If i need to post pictures i can. I just want to make sure this is the right problem. Thanks

Turntablebasics has a reputation for being slow in shipping. My suggestion would be vintage-electronics.cc. Reliable, inexpensive, and fast.
