Nice little score today at the goodwill
Technics sl-1500 mkII
My first Technics TT and man is this a heavy piece of equip.
No head shell and no dust cover but otherwise everythiong looks like it is in good shape. Speed looks good and no audible noise from the motor.

Anyone else with the sl-1500 mkII?
Might take a day or two but I hope to give this a test drive soon.
Only cost $8 so pretty nice find.

8 bucks? Sweet deal!!:thmbsp: I've got a 1400Mk2, but the cueing doesn't work, and is damn near impossible to fix. Does the cueing on your 1500Mk2 work?

$8 is a killer deal!

Get a headshell and a cart in that bad boy and get'em spinin', Bro!

I was going to ask you that was well as to the cuing. But with yours the arm is replaceable so if your cuing doesn't work arm replacement is an option.

Very nice score. I have an SL-1300MK2 with the cueing inop that I use as a manual table, and I love that thing. Especially the pitch adjustment. Definitly get a cart and headshell and have a blast :)

Hi,

The Technics SL-1500 Mk II is superbly made and a nice performer in nice shape. Good score. I like this family of turntables. I use a SL-1600 original model. It's been very reliable.

Very nice catch!! I have an 1800 that I like to use for general use and testing out new records. Very easy to use and easy to setup.

I've read about the cueing issues with this model. I haven't tested yet. Was just looking for a headshell. Hope to have this spinning this weekend.
Not only first Technics but first direct drive TT. Can't wait to give it a listen.

Definitely a sweet deal, especially if it performs like my SL1600 MKII.

Get that cart/head shell and ROCK OUT!!!

:) :)

Hi,

Look for a SL-1200 headshell for your machine. Fits perfectly and looks correct. Get a Technics SL-1200 alignment gauge, it makes cartridge alignment easier and fumble free. Enjoy!

Having an issue with the cueing lever. Doesn't catchthe arm lift.
Was just poking around but can't find out how to expose the underside of the tone arm to have a look.
Hoping to avoid completely taking the bottom apart just to get to the cue lever. Any way to get at it from the top?

Thanks,

No easy way to fix the cueing on these, as I stated earlier. A damn near impossible problem to fix, as the fault lies in a rather complex shaped plastic part that is prone to failure. Joel Thorner at The Turntable Factory had devised a repair procedure for these, but it is quite costly ($200[?] + shipping), and VERY labor intensive. Since Joel has passed on, I don't know if anyone else at The Turntable Factory is performing the repair. And seeing how you can find a turntable equal to or better for that price, I wouldn't bother paying for the repair. I think you're pretty much SOL (same as me).

Got an SL1300 a few months back for a similar price at a Swap Meet near here. Technics DD are sweet. Use it well.

Nice TT, great price.

There's a business here in Florida that makes new dust covers. I haven't checked the prices yet, but I'm sure they're not cheap. It's turntabledepot.com.

Manually cueing a record isn't the worst thing. You'll get used to it!

Good luck,
Rick

I have read postings elsewhere about people who were able to fix the lift mechanism with a rubber band-try here or at Audioasylum to find it-or just post the question.

I don't think the rubber o-ring fixes the cueing problem (if I'm remembering correctly), only the auto return function of the arm. This is the part that breaks, rendering cueing function inoperative:

You're thinking of the 1600MK2 and 1700MK2.
