Found out on the net that for the same price I paid for my Grado SR60's here in NZ (NZ$280), I could have bought a pair of SR-80's AND HAD THEM SHIPPED OVER all for LESS than I paid for the 60's!!!!
WHAT A RIP-OFF! And its not that the store I got my 60's from is expensive by NZ standards. In fact, they had the same pricing as the other stores in town. My friend tells me he saw the 60's being sold up in Hamilton (few hours drive north of me) for NZ$295!!
Just goes to show - what you think is pretty reasonable by standards set within your town could be expensive when compared to places further abroad. We all know this, but one never expects THAT MUCH of a price difference!
What did you pay for your 60's in US dollars?

According to www.oanda.com :
280 New Zealand Dollar = 139.132 US Dollar
and to think other places in NZ are charging even more...
Yes well when I bought mine recently, I got them for AUD $189 ...
AUD $189 = NZD $219
AUD $189 = USD $108
Probably a touch on the expensive side in USD's, but for me weighing up costs vs quality they were well worth it.
I have only had them for 2 weeks and have already enjoyed a few hours of pleasurable listening.
I find I am using them on my computer as much as with my audio setup. Who wants to go back to some crummy cheap computer phones when you have heard the Grado's!!

mine were £90 retail in the uk circa 2003 ($160)...
i've got two pairs one well run in and a mint in box 2nd pair...
uk prices are a joke...
prefer the sound of the 60's to the 80's...more bass speed...less 'boom boom' resonance
calling a brittle plastic cylinder enclosure a 'non resonant air chamber' rather takes liberties with the english language i'm afraid.. :D
as a quick tap with your fingernail will reveal...
if it didn't resonate it wouldn't sound like plastic when you tapped it.. :thumbsdn:

Grado has a very protective distribution network. US distributors are not allowed to ship overseas. This unfortunately results in very high prices in most non-US markets for Grado products. If you found a company willing to ship from the US to NZ (an assumption on my part - you didn't really say that), they were probably gray market.

You should have asked a forum member to buy you a pair and ship them to you. I paid US$50 for my SR-60's.
