I've got a new tone board with intact pots to put in my SX-838 courtesy of Kam (thanks man!!!). I don't have a schematic for this machine yet, can anyone scan the tone board schemo? I'm going to recap this assembly first, then recap others as time allows.

I did write down the 'lytics, but notice that there are some tantalums on this board as well. If the tants are in the signal path, what should I replace them with? They're all marked +10 25V, am I correct in assuming this is 10uF?

The +10 might be the tolerance.

The '+' is denoting the positive lead of the cap (tants are polarized). 10 = 10µf, 25 = 25V.

These caps are not in the signal path, but I hate tants anyway.

Here's what I'd do:

C1 and C2 are mylar. Replace with a .22µf metal polypropylene, Panasonic ECWF(B) series.

C3, C4, C37, C38, replace with 100µf 35V. Panasonic FC.

C7 & C8, replace with 47µf 25V. Panasonic FC.

C13 & C14, replace with 330µf 10V. Panasonic FC.

C15 & C16 are signal path caps. Replace with either 10µf 25V Panasonic FC, or BlackGate 4.7µf 50V 'N' series non-polar.

C29, C30, C31 & C32 are also signal path caps. A 10µf 25V Panasonic FC or a 10µf 50V BlackGate 'N' series non-polar here.

C35 & C36, replace with 330µf 10V Panasonic FC.

C39 & C40, signal path caps, replace with 10µf 25V Panasonic FC, or 4.7µf 50V BlackGate 'N' series non-polar.

Did you get the new dial pointer?

B3Nut..

IIRC, Pioneer does not label the components on the boards :(

You may need a scan of the PC layout to finish. Of course, buying the manual wouldn't be a horrible idea either..

Yeah, I think a service manual order is in order. I'll set about doing that here pretty quick. Got other stuff I should get manuals for too as far as that goes...
