Led Zepplin - Houses of the Holy, 1973

I bought this album in junior high. So it's been 30 years or so. That original copy has been misplaced. So I picked up another one today.

Rod Stewart - Atlantic Crossing

The first time I heard this was in a bar in Okinawa, Japan, while still in highschool. :D My best friend and I were the only ones in there late one night after wrestling practise. He turned me onto Rod Stewart and Slow Gin Fizzes. It was a really cool bar, just outside Gate 2 off Kadena Air Force base. Every inch (walls, chairs, tables, ceiling) was covered with signatures and graffiti from service men from all over the states. You could make requests or listen privately with a dozen or so headphones hanging down from the ceiling.

Some old albums kinda makes you run at the mouth. :)

BeeGees greatest hits vol.1.

NO, this is not the disco era stuff. Their work prior to disco was great late 60's, early 70's pop with a melancholy bent. 'I just dug this out after a couple of months, and I always love it. Makes me want to break out the bourbon, though..getting me kind of sad here in the 'hood on a Sunday morning.

LOL...I bought this album right here in San Diego at the Navy Exchange...for $4.25....I loved this album...but was in deep trouble with my siblings as they wanted me to buy a Ohio Players album, I think it was "Honey" but I opted for this instead...The "Honey" album came the following Saturday...as my folks used to give me $5 every Saturday for an album or $2 for 2 45's depending on which parent...my dad was the one who gave the $5 for the albums....though my Mom was really a "singles" person she gave me money sometimes for an album...but not too often...LOL

Actually I'm on my second copy from the Kadena BX. I let my high school girl friend borrow the first one. I went to her house one day and I was horrified to see it on her el crapo turntable with quite a bit of change balanced on the headshell. We broke up sometime later and I let her have it along with Rod Stewart's - A Night on the Town. But that's another story. :D

I recently picked up On An Island which sounds a lot like regular Pink Floyd.

It's a relatively obscure album, I don't know why? I did a quick and dirty check, and it seems that there aren't any fresh copies to be had, and used ones start at $60! (I'm talking about Wet Dream) Not to say it's not available, but I checked Amazon, and they usually have most everything.

Gilmours' s/t cd is available, and it's high time I bought it.

BTW, If you like On an Island, you should get the DVD. It has the complete OAI work with some PF, recorded at Albert Hall. Sonics and picture are top shelf. There is also a Blu-Ray disc available. Guests like Bowie and Crosby and Nash, plus tons of extras that won't bore the hell outta ya.

Highly recommended.

Lowell George - Thanks I'll eat it here

Hadn't listened to it probably since 1988 or so. What was I thinking?

Dixie Dregs - Night of the Living Dregs

Bought that one after seeing them in a small club in Palo Alto, CA in the late 70s. Mind blowing stuff then!

That's another wonderful recording mastered by Stan Ricker (who, I believe also mastered Floyd's DSOTM).

Some virtuoso playing for sure (decided to find my copy and put it on the turntable). Sounds a little crazy. I mean, just how many notes can they play in a set amount of time? A lot, obviously.

how could this possibly be in the "Been a while" thread?

All of my Lowell George flavored Little Feat is in regular rotation, and has been since released!

Ok, you got me to thinking. I haven't listened to either of these in a long time (I'll have to fix that).

The first album I ever bought: The Monkees ~ The Monkees

Paul Revere & the Raiders ~ Indian Reservation

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band is back on my IPOD and in heavy rotation.

I had a friend in the 8th or 9th grade (1969 or 70) who introduced me to many 'new to me" bands. I can remember him telling me that if I wanted to heard "really good guitar music" I should get into this record and to stop listening to Grand Funk. At the time I thought he was out of his mind, and about half the time he was, but I do believe he was correct!
