Hi all,

I was hoping someone might be able to answer a question I have regarding a system hook up I did this afternoon. First, I hooked up my Accuphase E-202 Integrated Amp (and ESS AMT 1) Speakers. I then patch the FM TUNER section of my FISHER 400 out to the E-202's TUNER input.
The result is excellent sounding FM! So, I then hooked up a SONY DVD/CD player to the FISHER 400, set the E-202's INPUT knob to AUX so as to play Cd's. So, one might ask, why not just plug the DVD/CD player directly into the ACCUPHASE ? Well, I don't know if it's my imagination or what but, it seems the sound is BETTER by sending the CD signal first to the FISHER 400 and then patched into the E-202 via the Fisher's TAPE OUT. How can this be ? Is the FISHER 400 first BOOSTING the signal thus making the E-202 play louder or might this perceived sound improvement have something to do with the signal first going through the Fisher's tubes ? Thanks for any help.

Hi C-T,

Yes indeed. The ACCUPHASE E-202 is a VERY nice sounding Solid State Integrated Amp in it's own right. However, using the FISHER 400's Tube Tuner patched into the E-202 is sort of the best of both Worlds. I can understand that using the 400's Tube Tuner would give me that beautiful warm sound but, I am at a loss trying to understand how the 400 effects the sound of a CD player.

How does it sound....better which is warmer or tube sounding? The Accuphase is very natural sounding but the fisher will definately color the sound. If your CD has two sets of outputs....hook directly to the E202 and A'B the two. That should answer your question.

Hi Fast,

I can understand why the FISHER's TUBE FM sounds so good connected to the E-202 but, I'm at a loss regarding the CD player being patched first into the FISHER and out to the Accuphase. What I'm trying to understand is,
HOW is the FISHER effecting the CD signal ? I mean, the signal isn't passing through the FISHER's tube section is it ? I.E. the FISHER's controls have NO effected on the CD's output. Perhaps the signal is just being boosted ?

It appears you have engaged the Fishers preamp section to transfer the signal to the E-202. In this case, IMHO, the tube preamp section of the Fisher is affecting/coloring the sound of the CD player.

Your ears are the final verdict in this equation.

Happy listening!

SixCats!,

I have here a same Option.

A beutyfull Preamp Accuphase C-200X and several TubeAmps/Receivers.

Iam a bit waggeling about the Impedances. A modern CDP has much more Output Voltages at Fishers and Co. had in the 60thies, as Input Specs.

I would herefore going the Oposite Way, to combine Accuphase's Pre with a Power Amp with Glass.

Concerning about destroying anything I dont play around.

B.T.W._: Accuphase is finest Technologie, farr away from Scr.. ! GUYS...!!
