I haven't heard that one, but Yamaha made some really nice decks. That sounds like one of the newer ones from the mid-to-late eighties. Prolly has Dolby B, C and maybe dbx. It is prolly a nice deck...

It's a very nice deck; I just snagged one this weekend, but it needs a belt and cassette deck belts are quite high on the PITA repair scale. Mine was dirt cheap, so I'm pleased.
Test it first with a tape. If the transport doesn't move the tape in all three functions, start lowballing if you're willing to work on fixing it.
BTW, it was close to top of the line. It does have dBx. Lift it; you'll see it's no POS

If it is like the K-1000 it is direct drive to the tape spindle so no belts for that and FF or Rew is an idler.

I have 2 K960's..belt drive...actually very easy to work on compared to say a Nak. Belt drive, single capstan, 2 head, Dolby B and dbx. The dbx is wonderful on them, the dolby, pretty poor. Good W&F, physically, louder than my Naks. Mechanical tape counter, with electronic sensing, a poor hybrid system, but it works. All the belts are available. The actual mechanism is very good EXCEPT for the FF/RR idler tire, which is poor. If FF/RR don't work well, at both extremes of the tape, I'd pass unless it was dirt cheap.
