This is one of my favorites! I see you have both the mono and Living Stereo Fritz Reiner Which one will you play?
ekmanning5 08-05-2008, 04:38 PM Just picked up the Living Stereo (CSO) version last week.
vinyl1 08-05-2008, 05:09 PM You are missing the greatest piano performance of all time, Sviatoslav Richter live in Sofia, Bulgaria in February 1958, recorded in glorious mono accompanied by heavy coughing.
Available on Columbia six-eye and Melodiya LP, but for this level of sound you might as well get the CD.
vinyl1 08-05-2008, 05:11 PM I should also mention that the Byron Janis 45-RPM Speaker's Corner Mercury, a 'reissue' of a record that was never issued, has both a fine performance and stunning sound.

vinyldavid 08-05-2008, 05:20 PM My all time favorite version is the Everest 1961 recording with Sir Malcolm Sargent and the London Symphony Orch.
Still awaiting the re-issued LP from MusicDirect. :scratch2:
My second favorite is the Reiner/CSO version.

cdfac 08-07-2008, 01:13 AM one of my top five favorite orchestral pieces, bar none. i've only heard two different recordings, however, both MP3s, and i wonder which ones they were... ooooh, i'm going to have to get an LP of it after i finally scrape together enough cash to buy Army's spare Dual tt!
