on the way back from a drs. apt today. i made a stop at a drunkin donuts, grabbed my usual med ice coffee- cns cream no sugar :thmbsp: i happened to walk next door to a vincent depaul here in stoughton.
i do the usual, walk over to the tapes an albums first. looked through em all
well just about, lol. then on to the next stage, the stereo section. really dont see much of anything good. so as im happening to get ready to leave an come home. buried down on the bottom shelf i see what looks like wood or veneer. im all happy now, an still dont know what it is but who cares. im un digging this wooden piece like a pirate digging out his chest.
well, after the digging lmfao an people looking at me like i am mad or something, i find this a sansui 8080, looked good an really kinda clean!! the veneer on the corners is in kinda peeling shape. but oh well, its now mine for a whooping 10 bucks:thmbsp: i get it home an pulling off the cover its really kinda clean inside! a little dust but its now gone. so i pull out the fuses.
then installed all new fresh fuses, hooked it up to the wall crossed me fingers, an then flipped the power switch. poof------- no smoke, no smells,
all lights working. i now have a flashing in protection mode 8080 lmfao well, im just gonna have to figure out whats wrong now aint i??
heres a few pics

pull the driver board check the fuse resistors see if any are open. with the driver board out turn the unit back on and see if it comes out of protection. if it does its somthing on the driver board

I may be a little behind the curve here, but jim w. are you the ak'er formally known as 2325fan? Just curious..
Anyhow, other than that, nice find on the 8080. Once you get her up and going you may be surprised how much you like the sound of that receiver..

yes it is the one standing up in the back there should be two screws on the metal plate thats on the top of that board remove the plate and the drverboard should just unplug out of the socket

First thing is get a service manual...
Then check the resistors on that board to see if any are out of tolerance, there have been a bunch of threads here about the procedure and results.
The light blue ones along the lower outboard areas of the board are most likely to fail...do a search here, have a good read while you wait for the manual.
The 8080 is highly regarded, you will love it, there's a fellow AKer that does cases, will veneer that vinyl case and that baby will be perfect.
