I have found a small problem with my Kenwood.
Sometimes when I turn it on sound will not be coming out of the right channel. If I adjust the tuning knob just a little the sound comes back. Sometimes it comes back when adjusting other knobs as well.
What could be causing this, is it easily fixable?

Clean all the pots, contacts and switches with DeOxit. It's a very easy process.
Good luck

Nice, thanks. Glad it's nothing serious. Forgive my naivety :)

Agreed. For whatever reason, I've found the tape monitor switch to be a common problem on the Kenwoods. Make sure you clean it very well.

Ya the movement of the tape monitor knob feels a lot different than all the others. A bit "gummy" almost.

Would rubbing alcohol work just as well? Seems no one carries deoxit around here.

Hummmm.... no.
I'll catch heat for this, but.... go to Radio Shack. Some of them do carry deoxit, but if not, they have a spray can of cleaner. It would work fine for getting your Kenny singing again.

Hey Postman, Try working the switch back and forth after the DeOxit or contact cleaner spraying. I have the bigger brother KR-6600 and I know you will be VERY pleased when you get it working. Enjoy!!

Yep, what you mentioned is a classic effect from controls that have gotten dirty. You can get deoxit from the guitar center on the web, if your local RS doesn't carry it. To clean those controls, you will need to remove the cover and spray the pots directly, then rotate the controls back and forth to burnish the contacts. Flick the switches up and down while spraying. Don't overdo the spraying. you don't want puddles inside your unit. I usually let the unit sit and make sure nothing is dripping. If a unit has had a major problem and cleaning, I let it sit overnight before turning it back on.
Good luck!

if you can't find de-oxit spray,
lowes carries a decent assortment of electrical sprays, the one i've used ,
'electrical contact and control cleaner' works very well . not deoxit , but
much better than RS 'TUNER CLEANER' , which contains gooey silicone.
some of those big kenwoods have pots and switches
impossible to access w/out
tearing down the whole shebang . my super eleven even has some hidden
inside a metal can .
