Hey fellas,
I recently got a Marantz 140.
My dream plans:
to get another 140 and a suitable match preamp. I would love to control both amps with the Preamp. I think thats how this works.
My question to you is,
Which Marantz Preamp would best partner up with this setup?
Basically, I want a "Master" volume control for the two 140's.
What do you Marantz dudes think?:thumbsdn: or :thmbsp: or :scratch2:

Or is the current 2252b a reasonable option?

I believe the 3200 is the recommended match for the 140. I just don't know if you can use it with (2) 140's.

The 3250 and 3800 have dual pre-amp outputs, I think the 3600 does too, but I can't remember for sure. I believe all the vintage Marantz pre-amps have a low enough output impedance to allow splitting the output to two power amps.

Don't know for the 3200, but it's the macthing pre for the 140 amp, the 3600 and 3800 same face plate design can handle 2 power amps

The 3200 has only one pre-out.

I do kinda like the 4100. I like the meters in front.... Goes with the 140's meters.
It also has pre-outs front/rear. Is that the same thing as two outs?

I have a 140 with a 3200. Really, any preamp should be able to drive the 140 to full output. Two 140's shouldn't be much of a problem, either. I would use a good Y connector from a single preout.
I am not sure if you intend to use the 140 as a mono amp? If so, you cannot do it. It is not bridgeable.

I run a 3200 thru a split y off the pre out, and drive a 240 and a 140 with great results.

Okay,
I just won a auction on a 3200! I can't wait. I might try and sell of the 2252b to help offset the cost of the 3200...
So stoked! I'll post picks when I receive it.
Thanks for all your help

That sounds like a sexy setup!

And yea, the 2252B can be used as a pre-amp....you can get a splitter to run the two 140s
