I'm getting a new pair of amazing speakers, Onix LS-6 line source (line array) with an efficiency of 90 db and am looking for an amp to run them.

I have a Marantz 2270 that I 'm using now but I have a friend who's offered me a terrific Sansui AU-9900. However, I have thought for a long time about trying tubes - a tube pre/SS amp sounds like a winner to me - but then I see a Scott 222 (don't know which model) for sale locally for $425.

Does anyone know the power of this amp and the number of inputs? I need at minimum three: tuner, tape and aux. Would this be a good "starter" tube amp for a tube novice? Are there particular things to look for with particular models? Would I be better off going with a newer tube unit (e.g. Jolida)? My budget isn't large; I'd like to keep it under $500.

I know these questions are somewhat open ended, but I really appreciate any feedback on the Scott 222 and its appropriateness for a tube newbie.

Thanks!

Thor

Look around, I think you can find a good tube amplifier for under $100.00. I found a Scott LK-48 3 years ago for $50.00.

yup . . what he said :thmbsp:

that being said, if that Scott has been gone through (recapped, etc) it'd be a good deal . . .

check out this website for spec's on the 222 series . . .

I don't have one, so I'm not sure *exactly* how many inputs it has, but I'd bet it'd have enough for you . . .
