Just kind of curious how many of you listen to music in mono and how satisfying you find it. I find myself regressing (date wise) in my musical tastes and am trying to decide if I want to do a mono system. I have a Fisher series 80 mono receiver that is very nice and I'm trying to figure out if I want to pursue restoring it.

While I don't have a mono system, I do listen to a number of mono reissues on CD.
To me, the key date in the history of audio recording (in other words the
greatest leap forward once the technology was introduced) was the advent
of electrical recording in the mid twenties. Regards.

I have a nice Pilot amp and tuner set that I used to use in my old house as the sun porch set-up. It is a very nice looking set, and I ran a cd player into it but actually mostly listened to the tuner for either baseball games or news on the am at night. I found the CD and FM music through it sounded very nice, and I ran it through an Infinity speaker. I don't use it anymore since we moved, but I have it in the closet.
As far as mono, in general I listen to a lot of mono discs, and have mono switches on some of my stereo receivers, so I like it. Some things - like early Stones and Kinks lps - sound so much better than the stereo mix that I can't stand them. For most pop and jazz, I find the stereo mix is a waste of time. For classical, a good stereo mix is great.

I am running a sansui TU-217 tuner, Gemsound 1030 DJ mixer (temperary only) a sony tt ps-x5 a panasonic dvd player for cd through a RCA-sp-20 quad 6v6 mono block into two hepner 15 inch woofers with a cheap x over for the mid tweets that is a rca 5inch two way bookshelf spearker like a minumis 7 don't sound half bad, all but the tuner were free, some times I will role the sansui sp 3500 speakers into the system if I want night time mood music, the hepners are very loud speakers sence they were from a hammond organ tone cab they will shake the house.I use the sansui's for classical music and the hepners for all the rock and stuff the kids like.
