I bought a GE mono tube amplifier yesterday and wanted some help idendifying the chassis. It has the number 14285 stamped on it, but I cannot see more until I remove the unit. Here is a picture, along with a link to more:

The bottom of the console cabinet (speaker housing/pedestal) is in pretty sorry shape cosmetically. The connections to the speakers are all shot and the drivers themselves, although undamaged, don't appear to be anything special. The record changer is in poor shape - the top is displaced from the bottom and there are a couple of parts loose that I cannot idendify.

I am considering having the cabinet modified:

I would have the pedastal/speaker housing cut off by a pro. I may or may not keep the original TT, depending on how bad off it is. I would rework the amlifier and tuner. I would then use it to drive a University cabinet that I also acquired:

I had thought about displaying the GE unit on top of the University. However, it is a couple of inches wider. I could narrow it while I am at it, but then the side and top veneer would be compromised. The current condition is good and I don't necessarily want "new" looking; however, I definitely don't want mismatched. What are your thoughts/suggestions?

Hello,

Isn't the chassis number indicated on the tube layout paper?

.....some of which make no sense to me:

http://www.micksmothers.net/gallery2/d/28907-1/GE+Console+080808+jpg+008.jpg

It reads:

G-E Frequency Modulation
Radio Phonograph Combination-752

The label continues on and lists the power requirements, as well as the frequency information. The patent #1941069 is also listed.

Now, one of the specs lists power as 85 watts - I assume that is not output power?

Take a look at this to see if it matches; it's for a GE 752

Um, that's probably because they moved the download link for this viewer. Try this link:

I installed Lizard view (or whatever the firsttime). I'll try this one....

Are you sure a single 6V6GT power output stage can drive your big speaker
cabinet?

No, I'm not sure at all:no: - I have no tube experience, so I am welcoming all suggestions as I develop a plan.

Well, the console you bought can be regarded as a good quality table radio, but not
much more. My advice would be to get help to have it restored to original specs,
assuming the cost is acceptable to you, and to keep reading these forums, and
anything else you can find about the topics you are interested in. Good luck,
and if you have any specific questions, just post them. This is one of the best
places I know to discuss audio, electronics and many other things.

If it's a very efficient speaker, it can!

None of the literature I have found lists efficiencies. However, here is a link to everything I know about the cabinets:

I am surprised at how well the 8 ohm cabinet does with very little solid state power. I also have a 16 ohm cabinet that may work better with the GE amplifier.
