And I must say, it's about damn time! I love this record.
hpsenicka 08-10-2008, 02:19 PM An excellent performance! ... I have the CD version released about a year ago.
Andyman 08-10-2008, 09:33 PM Yep, I've got it burned to my iPod. It reminds me a lot of the bootleg my brother had back in the 60s from Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

thanks for the post! i'm a diehard neil fan and i have all his stuff, but i just started buying records. this will start my neil vinyl collection off right. and it is a great live record.
bordeno 08-15-2008, 05:57 AM Just a great performance. The songs are true to the studio versions plus you get the intimacy of a live performance. And the recording/ engineering is outstanding - some of the best sound I've heard in a live recording.
The vinyl could be even better...
I've got this one on order; I thought that the Classic Records reissue of Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Fillmore East was superb as well.
Rotoplooker 08-15-2008, 09:58 AM I wonder how it was recorded back then. I've seen so many shows at Massey Hall and the acoustics are nothing short of perfect. Anyone know if it was miked from the stage or through a mixing board? Either way, I'd love to have it too!
Spectrum77 08-23-2008, 06:48 AM Blokes- heard the CD just this week- blown away. Now I believe there is such a thing as a true, "intimate" experience with a recording. Just pre-ordered the LPs- 400grams of 'em.
day67 08-25-2008, 04:16 PM That CD's a time machine. My first impression was that for a "Live" recording it was very very good....
radioactive 08-26-2008, 01:27 AM going to have to pick up the vinyl version myself.
ScramMan2 08-26-2008, 01:52 PM It is one of the best live recordings I have ever heard. I'm sure it's a soundboard.
Whats interesting about this is the fact the audience just sits on their hands because all the songs were new at the time.
I have it on my iPod also. Think I'll buy the vinyl along with the new David Gilmour 6 LP box set.
getright99 08-26-2008, 02:00 PM neil young's live stuff is always great. i like this massey hall one, 'weld', 'year of the horse' etc... i've got a bootleg from berlin in 1987 that rocks as well. neil RULES!!
KeninDC 08-26-2008, 02:09 PM The CD is fantastic. Not "loud" at all.
Looking forward to the LP.

Jeepers, and only $44, too!
ScramMan2 01-02-2009, 04:13 PM I already had a copy from the newsgroups on my iPod. I was able to snap up a copy of the CD/DVD combo for $11 today. The CD is in HDCD if you can handle that format on your player. I'm guessing the DVD is not of high quality video? The packaging says NTSC 16x9.
I bought this because it sounds so good, and the fact that the audience is not heard at all. The songs were all new at the time this was recorded on 1/19/71. I had not been "in country" (Vietnam, USMC Hotel 2/1, 1stMarDiv) for a month at that time. Was still a little green around the edges, LOL.
MarkD 01-02-2009, 08:41 PM I've got the vinyl version and it sounds great. I'm amazed at how good it sounds considering how long ago it was recorded.
It surely does sound fantastic.
ScramMan2 01-14-2009, 04:30 PM I've had it on the last two nights in a row. Amazing.
Any fans of "Greendale" here?
Maicobmw 01-14-2009, 06:25 PM I've had it on the last two nights in a row. Amazing.

Oh yeah, I love me some Greendale, although I don't have the vinyl version the CD sounds pretty darn good...
I do have the NY & Crazy Horse at Fillmore East on vinyl, that also sounds awesome for a live recording of that time period. The best versions ever of Cowgirl in the Sand and Down by the River IMHO. :thmbsp:
Henry Kloss 01-14-2009, 08:08 PM I will be picking this up for sure. I saw him with CSN in 74 in Buffalo, and later in Toronto for the road eyes tour. His haunting voice is always spot on.
MarkD 01-15-2009, 11:04 AM I also have the CD version of Greendale. That a great album.
day67 01-15-2009, 12:03 PM I picked up a copy of the Sugar Mountain CD/DVD, I think recorded in 1968, hoping it was as well recorded as Massey Hall, but no such luck. It's ok, sounds like a demo to me, clearly not in the same league as Massey -- sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread...............
ScramMan2 02-14-2009, 10:41 PM Is that the Sugar Mountain: Live at Canterbury House 1968 you mentioned? It's the newer archive release. Not as good as Massey Hall?
ScramMan2 04-06-2009, 09:24 PM I was able to get a used copy of Greendale on CD with a DVD included. Just had it 320k vbr on my iPod. Fantastic recording.
Fork In The Road will be out tomorrow April 7, 2009.
Trower 04-06-2009, 10:46 PM Just picked this up today, and currently giving it a listen. I am speechless. That is all.
