I am usually wary of suggesting music for others to check out. Tastes vary so much. This is an exception if you are in to Americana. 47 different artists playing Peter Case songs, and it is really good. And all proceeds go to Hungry For Music, who give instruments to the needy.

Here is a list of musicians and songs.

How very cool!Peter Case is one of America's most gifted singer-songwriters. For over 30 years-from street singer to soul-punk bandleader to solo acoustic performer--Case has used his songs to crash barriers in popular music.I could not agree more.

Reading the liner notes, it says he played with the Nerves, who toured and opened for the Ramones. He has recorded with T-Bone Burnett, Roger McGuinn, Ry Cooder, Dave Alvin, John Prine and a bunch of others. His music has been covered by The Flamin' Groovies, Goo Goo Dolls and Marshall Crenshaw.
I saw him in Washington DC in the 80's with David and David and remember it as a good show.

Met him several times in Austin, and saw him play ay the Cactus Cafe on the UT campus a few times. Always a great show.

I love Peter Case, alas have never seen him live, though. I was just listening to 'Kool Trash'!:thmbsp:
Another one of those guys who should have had a higher profile, but for whatever reasons, he just never got beyond, 'cult artist'. :scratch2:

Weird. Was just listening to “Million Miles Away” a few minutes ago. Love the Plimsouls and love his solo stuff. :thmbsp: Another mysterious case of a totally deserving artist remaining in the cult background.

Get the CD! 3 discs, lots of interesting bands, all great songs.
And proceeds go to a worthy charity-Hungry for Music.
Not affiliated with them, I picked up the CD at one of their benefits.

99% of the real talent is relatively unheard of. We get crap rammed down our throats over and over everyday on the radio.
If SRV had not covered "Voodoo Child" he might have never got any airplay.
A rant better suited to another thread, but it gets me a little riled up.
