Well, I went to play a record last night when (oh S#!t) the platter is not turning. So I pull off the mat, and the belt is still there, but no movement from the pulley.

Yes it still has power, and all that - but no turny:(

So whats a good used table to persue for under $100.00. Currently the TT I have is a Dual 1237 - not the greatest but it worked...

Oh yeah, and I would like to be able to keep my 6-month old Grado standard mount cartridge for use on the new TT...

I am sure you could get many good tables for under a c note. hard part is they are on epay which means shipping and all the problems associated with em.

With that said if you can find someone who knows how to pack I would recommend the Pioneer PL-12. Its a bare bones good sounding Pioneer that can be had usually for under 50 bucks and shipping done right should be in the 20-25 range depending on where its shipped from.

If you shop or get lucky I bet you could get a Thorens from around 100 or so maybe even a bit less but then theres still shipping.

your cartridge should work with either of these.

One other to consider is the MMF 2. yes its twice your budget but it comes with a very nice cartridge and is a pretty darn good table.

I'll check those out...thanks.

I hear what you're saying about E-bay, I try to buy sensitive stuff from local sellers (if at all possible) to cut down on transportation damage/cost.

In reality, I was thinking $100 for the TT...shipping above that.

I guess if I could find one locally for $150 I wouldn't cry

I might have a 1237 for parts around here.
Are you up to a motor transplant???

I could do it, but the queston is: Is it worth it?

Probably it would make better sense as I need to replace my CD player too now (it's on a slow, downward slide itself)

You may be able to get your Dual running again easily. Try putting a drop of oil on the motor bushing right under the belt pulley. You may also have to take the table apart to oil the other motor bushing on the bottom of the motor. There is a good chance that it will work after that.
If that doesn't work, send me a PM, I have a NAD table available cheap.

I think I've got a Pioneer PL12... or at least, a very similar model Pioneer. It's got the suspended plinth and the arm with the side-load counterweight out diagonally on the rear of the tonearm (in addition to the normal stylus force and antiskate adjustments).

I'd let it go, readily, for $50 plus shipping. Cosmetically, the dustcover ain't that great, but it isn't bad either... a number of scratches, but not broken in half or anything.

Regards,
Gordon.
