The flea markey down the street has a Pioneer Pl-570 with an Audio-Technica 3003 cartridge. They are asking 60. I don't know what condition the needle is in.
Is this a decent price? Also, can this go straight into a tape or video input on my receiver or do I need a phono preamp? I has a hardwired dual RCA with ground spade cable.

A lot might depend on "which" PL-570 model this is. Much to my surprise it seems Pioneer made TWO different tables with the same model #..I wouldn't know this but I've been looking for a PL-570 lately. There is a "classic" wood and brushed aluminum model from the '70's and a later black plastic crap model from who cares when? IF this is a wood body and brushed aluminum model..and all is working, I'd pay $60 bucks for it anytime. I'd plan on replacing the cartridge and stylus anyway so personally I wouldn't be too concerned about what shape the installed one is in. Maybe use it as a bargaining point though :D

Sorry forgot to add..you will definetly need a phono pre amp with any turntable. You won't get much sound at all if you plug the RCA jacks from a TT into an aux. input on a receiver. And what sound you get will be awful, as there is an equalization curve built into the phono stage. So you need an amp or receiver with a specific PHONO input or an add on phono stage. Hope this helps.

This is the black plastic one. I take it that means the price is out of line. Thank you for the tip.
The reason I asked about the preamp is that in my ebay scourings I've run into a few - frequently Radio Shack house brands made by who-knows - that are described as having built in a pre for connection to a receiver's aux input. Since RS sold stuff built by other manufacturers I figured probably other brands might offer this feature too, I just don't have any idea which makes and models.

I guess there are a few tables around now that have built in phono amps for connecting to whatever. I'd almost forgot that, but it seems these are usually advertised for using the table to hook to a computer and make MP3's out of your vinyl...I think that says all you need to know about such tables.
By the way, here's the '70's wood version PL-570. Does it look like it's worth $60? :p:

Can someone please tell me what they think would be the maximum amount the classic wood version is worth? I have found one that is mint but, I think the price is way too high. I need some idea.
Thanks,
