An old Technics SL-1600 DD tt followed me home from the swap pile at the town dump today. The cartridge, a big red thing, looked... interesting.
Based on the markings thereupon and a quick look at the Cartridge Database, this appears to be an AudioQuest 404i cartridge. The 404i seems to be a high output (2.5 mV) MC cartridge, of which I know nothing. Never even knew AQ made/sold cartridges.
Needless to say, this particular cartridge is sans cantilever and stylus. Does anyone retip these? Is it worth retipping? (or is it just an attractive piece of junk at this point?)
