KentTeffeteller 08-17-2008, 09:19 AM Hi, You'll likely need a new motor pulley for 60 Hz use. The motor may be switchable but you may even need a motor for 110 use. Most Duals could be switched for voltage if sold in Europe. Nice Dual! hifi_nut 08-17-2008, 10:29 AM First time I ever see an "S" armed Dual. Looks like a keeper. OvenMaster 08-17-2008, 10:58 AM AFAIK, that's the only S-armed Dual model ever made... and even some of those had straight arms. KentTeffeteller is correct: a 60Hz pulley (part no. 234 454) is needed, and you should be able to make some changes in wiring to accommodate 110V line voltage. Here's the schematic. Tom IXLR8 08-17-2008, 11:21 AM rcdis perhaps this may help although it is for the earlier srtaight arm model 1239. http://www.vinylengine.com/library/dual/1239.shtml What a cool find please keep us posted on this one. lini 08-17-2008, 02:38 PM AFAIK, that's the only S-armed Dual model ever made... and even some of those had straight arms. Uhm, not quite. Actually there were a couple of models Dual offered with either a straight (no suffix or suffix G) or an S-shaped arm. E.g., there also are 1237As and 491As... Reason behind was that a good part of Dual's business was to sell their tt drives to other manufacturers (like Grundig, for example) to be integrated in their stuff. Well, and some of these customers asked for S-shaped arms, even though Dual always preferred the straight variants... Greetings from Munich! Manfred / lini rcdis 08-17-2008, 04:05 PM Thanks for all the suggestions on converting the TT. It looks like the drive on the DUAL 1249 is very similar to the TT,I might be able to use most of the drive. The main problem is how to get the platter off, it is a single unit rather than a two part. rcdis 08-17-2008, 04:08 PM Uhm, not quite. Manfred / lini The DUAL website also lists the DUAL 1235 as an S arm TT. lini 08-17-2008, 06:17 PM The DUAL website also lists the DUAL 1235 as an S arm TT. Yeah, well, so much for Dual and consequent nomenclature, ey? ;) Anyway, in that case the straight-armed model was the 1234... Greetings from Munich! Manfred / lini OvenMaster 08-17-2008, 06:26 PM Whoops. :stupid: Thanks, Manfred, rcdis. I didn't know about the 1235. My apologies for the misinformation. rcdis 08-17-2008, 10:32 PM Here is the works view. IXLR8 08-19-2008, 01:05 PM Here is the works view. rcdis that turntable holder looks like it works well. NoTransistors 08-19-2008, 01:40 PM On this site, you will find a few linear arms, very rare for Dual. I wonder what models are missing, as there is no 1229Q listed or pictured. But one of the sales fliers [I believe] shows a 1229 with an anti-skate dial calibrated for CD-4. http://wega.we.funpic.de/dual.html Seth Forever Analog and Covered In Parrot Poop rcdis 08-19-2008, 10:49 PM rcdis that turntable holder looks like it works well. I have not finished the base, so it is still a little rough. rcdis 08-24-2008, 02:31 AM This is the frist DUAL I have messed with where the platter is quite a bit smaller than a 12 " LP? Know of any others? lini 08-24-2008, 06:40 AM rcdis: Sure, most Dual changers only have 27 cm platters - but there are also single play models with that platter size like the 461/481/491/496... And the platters on the old 410/420/430 are even smaller (a tad below 21 cm). Greetings from Munich!
