Middle of the road, but still quite usable. Nice score and the price was right :)

Great find! I've had an SL-D3 for many years and it has always performed well. Enjoy!

Watch those curbside finds...they can end up costing you money. I picked up a very tidy looking pair of JBL L44's on the curb, and they were perfect except for worn-out LF drivers. I had them reconed for $150 and they were good as new....problem was, I didn't like the sound of them. So, my free find that I invested $150 into are sitting in my basement.

Fortunately, being a turntable, the SL-D2 has no LF drivers.:D

That's not "watch those curbside finds", that's watch how you spend your money.

Back on topic... I have an AT440MLa on a similar tt (direct drive, s-shaped tonearm) and would strongly recommend it to anyone. There is rumor of a price hike (and more than rumors of a weak dollar) so get it soon.

Getrigt99: uhhh....your cart just upped the anty. I would dump the table and put that cart on a table truly worthy.....read some past posts on it...I think you'll find you just scored big!

AND Markshan:....ouch, my nose is bleeding...did I just get smacked? :headscrat.....guess I had it coming.

If those are your two choices, leave it on the Technics.

I didn't mean it as a smack, just trying to point out that you made a choice to spend the cash.

When I "rescue" a set of speakers that I don't want to invest in, I take the useful parts (crossover, terminals, whatever) and "re-trash" the rest.

The SL-D2 is an under rated turntable. It looks too much like a plastic POS, but it's not. Of my present collection of Duals, Garrards, Onkyos and some other Technics (belt and direct drive), The SL-D2 is my favorite of the moment. It's very smooth, stable and quiet.

I won't get into the cartridge debate here. Right now I'm using a Shure M101EG (had to say it Howard)/M75 ED-T2/Premiere Black/..? and it sounds great. Also rotate an RXT6, Signet TK2Ep, AT95E onto the table. All good in their own respects.

Stay out of my neighborhood! Good stuff is getting harder to find on the curb, the metal scrappers are taking everything! :beerchug: :smoke:
