I spoke with Dr. Strangelove (probably more well known in the "Pioneer" forum, and author of the famous "It's Odd, But Not Peculiar" thread) yesterday on the phone. I told him I wanted to post this and he asked me not to, but sometimes I don't listen too well.:D

We had spoken a few months ago and discussed the symptoms I had prior to my heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery. He had been having a few minor issues, and I suggested he have a checkup. Friday, August 8th, he passed out on his front porch while talking to a neighbor, a little after 4 in the afternoon. A trip to the emergency room and subsequent tests showed that his blood hemoglobin level was about 1/3 of normal, so they started looking for internal bleeding of some sort. They found three ulcers that were probably the culprit, and gave him a transfusion to straighten things out. At the same time, they decided to do a colonoscopy. It was then they found a polyp the size of a golf ball that was determined to be early stage 2 colon cancer. They operated the next morning (Monday?) and removed about one foot of his colon. Tests showed it hadn't spread to the nearby lymph nodes, so chemotherapy is most likely not going to be necessary. He is now at home recuperating, a little sore, swollen from the infusion of fluids to get his blood squared away, but doing quite well.

Many of you consider him a friend appreciate his vast knowledge of Pioneer, so I thought you deserved to know.

Get well soon, Doc.

Larry,

I know you were gone for awhile and I was starting to wonder what you were up too. A heart attack and bypass surgery? I hope you are doing very well, my friend!

Thanks for letting us know about Doc. He is a great guy. Hope he recuperates quickly and is feeling himself again. Give Doc our best next time you talk to him.

As for you, hope to see you around some more. Take care!

May the Holy One, blessed be He, bring Doc back to full health, with minimal, if any, lasting effects of all this. May his healing be speedy and complete, and if there be any errant tissue in the wild, may it be quickly detected and dealt with, or even dismissed by Divine intervention. May the Holy One be with Doc and all of those who are near to his heart, revealing a peace that passes all understanding, and may Doc discover a side of the Holy One he never imagined was there...
