Hi All,
I just joined this site not long ago. I am very new at this and have really gotten hooked in a hurry. This is what I have so far.
2000X, 5000X, G7000, 8080 and a 9090DB. It has been great working on them and cleaning them up. I have even gotten into putting new veneer on. That has been challenging to say the least.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the answers to questions and helping me out. I am really having alot of fun.

Sid

Never saw myself working on electronics and speakers. Now I'm hooked. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm hooked. I also have a Marantz 2238B, Pioneer SX-838 and a little Sony STR-6046A. My girlfriend says "why don't you sell some of this". I just can't seem to part with anything. Any way it's great fun. I found a pair of 3-way Silvertone speakers at a garage sale fo $10. Actually they don't sound too bad. I believe they are from the early 60's. Anyone know anything about these?

Hi Sid, its good to see some new enthusiasm here! :) Getting hooked is just the start of a long path of collecting and hunting for that elusive Sansui QRX9001 in a second hand store for $100! I wish....
I was the same when I got bitten by the 'hifi' bug and still got it! :D Have been collecting Pioneer and Sansui for years and have aquired some nice gear over time, I'm also a tech and enjoy fixing this older gear. I recently picked up a Sansui AU666 which has such a nice sound.
There is heaps of info on this site and very knowledgable people too, so stick around and don't be shy to post about your new findings!

Cheers,

Glen.

Thanks Glen,
I really do have the bug...but I love it:D. Some of the stuff is in pretty good shape. I'm pretty good at the cosmetic stuff and changing lamps etc.. I have a ton to learn. I have a question for you or anyone else. I picked up a G7000. The tuner picks up FM stations when the FM muting is off(no signal on the meter and no stereo light). As soon as I turn the muting on the sound goes out and won't pick up any stations. When in the AM mode I can get the signal meter up to about 4 on close stations. But nothing on the signal meter on FM stations. Any suggestions???:scratch2:

Thanks,
Sid

Hi Sid, in regards to the G-7000, you may very well have a problem with the fm section on that, I am assuming you have some kind of antenna connected to the FM terminals on the rear. :)
If you are finding FM stations clear with the muting off, it should allow the audio to come through with the muting switch on, there could be something wrong with the muting circuit/multiplexing or the sensitivity is down due some component going bad or the alignment is out. What sort of signal level reading are you getting when an FM station is tuned in with the muting off?

My G-6000 which is the one just under yours has a great tuner in it, real sensitive and picks up any station on a hunk of wire, with the muting on, so yours should be performing the same.

Let me know your findings! :)

Cheers
Glen.

I get no movement on the signal meter with the muting on or off it stays at zero. The only way I get the signal meter to read anything is in the AM mode. I do have an antenna connected and have other receivers in the same area getting great reception.

Wow ilt looks like you've come down wth a bad case of Sansui Fever! :D

The G-7000 is the sleeper in your collection and well worth getting working properly. Have fun. :thmbsp:

Yes, I have the fever. My G-7000 is still sick so I may have to take it in. The problem is there are not too many people in the Minneapolis area that work on these. The only guy I hear is any good(AB Sound)is booked for 12-16 weeks. I guess he must be good. Anybody know of service guys in the Minneapolis area??

Thanks,
Sid

Hi Sid, the FM stage in your G-7000 has got a problem for sure, its the sort of thing you'll have to either live with or get someone with some expertise you can fix the tuner for you. There could possibly be a power supply rail which runs the fm section could be down also, its been a while since I've glanced in mine, maybe obtain a circuit and check all the voltages going to the tuner board?? Just a thought anyway...
Cheers!
