I want to burn some CD's for the car of stuff I have on vinyl. What's a good way to get stuff from my receiver to the computer? Just a line level out to the computer in? If so, what would be a good software to record it with? wav? mp3?
Yeah Luther, a straight line level from receiver to PC should do the trick ... what type of soundcard to you have?
As for format, well that depends on whether space is an issue or not. With the noise of a car, you won't be able to differentiate between MP3 and wav file so really it comes down to whether you want to cram a whole lot of tracks on there (use MP3) or not (use wav).
As for software, the guys here swear by Adaptec, I use NTI Diskmaker, Nero is supposed to be pretty good, Roxio is OK too. Take your pick.
Was that any help? :dunno:

Nero tends to be better functional wise, but EZ CD creator (Roxio) is better with the wizards and guides if you aren't sure how to do things. Also, I believe it has an app which is supposed to clean up audio recordings... like remove the clicks and pops from a vinyl recording.

Problem is, that application takes some of the music with it if you're not careful. Alos, if you use Roxio with Windows XP, it re-boots your computer. Make sure your car CD player plays mp-3s before you burn a bunch of them.
What Roxio Easy CD Creator DOES have that I use and like is the programming for recording the LPs to the hard drive I like TVoyetra's software for de-clicking. Yu can expand the visual representation of th etrack to isolate the offending pop/click an dremove only that pop/click.

How far can you safely run cable between 'puter and stereo? I used to try to lug the TT to the 'puter desk, but it's too much of a pain. It would probable take thirty feet or so of cord to get from one to another.
I've got Magix Audio Cleaning Lab. It seems to do a good job, but it does lock up when you're trying to clean up tape hiss. Use the save button very often!

I would be leary of running the cable more than 3 or 4 meters. In addition, most computer soundcards are not as sensitive as a line level input on a reciever. For this reason (and also because it helps me get the TTable close to computer), I bought a preamp to use for vinyl recording. Hook the preamp outputs to the soundcard input, and use the volume to adjust rec level. Lowest noise that way...
