I'm a fairly new to the turntable/vinyl world and I'm thinking of buying my first turntable a JVC model AL-A151. Its not a very old model. Will I have any trouble upgrading the cartridge and needle? Also, Is this a good choice? Do JVC turntables have a good reputation??

It looks like a typical late 80's black plastic turntable to me. Looks like it takes a standard half inch mount cartridge, so upgrading will be no problem. I would look for something nicer though, less plastic.

Why should I avoid plastic? because of cracks?
Also i'm hesitating between a Technics SL 19 and this one. I just can't seem to find a picture of one anywhere.

Ive had vary good luck with my JVC QL-F4. I got it new in 1979
and have had no trouble with it many many years of record playing too.
