I know there has been some hubub about the future (or lackthereof) of Pandora, one of the coolest internet radio thingies ever, but this just caught my eye. It is now a free service when used with Squeezecenter (like your Squeezebox or Transporter). This is normally free when used on your PC, but there used to be an annual fee to use this with the aforementioned devices.
Woo hoo!!!

Awesome! Pandora is awesome, I use it for music that I listen to a lot anyways, even if I have it already, I'll hear things that I like even more, or new songs by the artist that I didn't have.

Does this mean I can get it on my Squeezebox or is Canada still blocked?

I discovered Pandora a few months ago. Now have about six different stations set up, and finding new music all the time. I like oldies, especially the very obscure ones the OTA radio stations (even so-called "oldies" stations) don't play anymore, outright do not have in their record libraries or on their parent companies' central servers, or have not played in years or decades; well, Pandora has them and more besides. There are hardly any songs this service plays that I don't like; almost every song I hear from them gets a "thumbs up" rating from me. In fact, I don't think I've given any of their music a thumbs-down yet.
This is easily the best web-based online music service I've seen to date; I certainly hope it has a bright future. Pandora is a music service whose time has come, a service which allows listeners to set up stations which play only their favorite music--and without commercials. Long live Pandora and the Music Genome Project.
To the poster in Canada who is currently blocked from listening to Pandora: I would wait awhile. Sooner or later Pandora will expand its online presence to cities north of the border, unless there are licensing issues or other problems that are preventing the service from operating in Canada. If enough potential listeners write in and tell them how much they would enjoy hearing Pandora, the service would almost certainly find some way to get around whatever is actually forbidding them to provide service to that part of the world. The Internet, after all, is a world-wide system which should not, IMO, have any restrictions of this kind, or any other, unless of course certain countries have objections, for whatever reasons, to their citizens listening to American rock and roll oldies. A local radio station in Cleveland has an Internet audio stream available to listeners in this country, but it is currently forbidden to stream outside the U.S. due to licensing issues or other problems. With Pandora, however, I don't know what the issues are that are keeping them from streaming to Canada, but as I said above, in time that may change, since things are constantly changing on the Internet and elsewhere. Who knows, there may be a service in Canada in operation even as I write this that is similar to Pandora. If not, I would wait awhile and see what happens.

Licensing issues is the exact problem unfortunately :(

Good use of Pandora!! I've been using it for almost 2 years, started when I was going to school in Canada, man was I pissed when I went to use it one day an they said it was no longer available in Canada! But now that I'm back in the States I use it when I'm working on the computer or just gaming;) I have found alot of artists on there that I had never heard of that I now love. I couldnt live without it........or could I:scratch2:
