Hi All, I would like to take some measurements of my speakers but I don't have the gear. Is there anyone in SMAC that can do that? Cheers.

I have a 31 band RTA..........has pink and white noise outputs.........can be used to measure freq. response of speakers and the room that they are in...........

Oh wait, oh wait...I have a tape measure!!

Sometimes I measure my other equipment and stuff with it too--REALLY cool tool!

What specifically are you trying to measure? SPL? Frequency response? Impedence? Effeciency? Crossover points? Distortion? Phase angles?

Freq response and impedance, I suspect. He is working on some econowaveguides and I think he needs to know how to mate up some woofers to the EWGs most effectively. And even maybe work on his big Jensen Imperials with EV drivers.

I don't think someone who doesn't have measurement gear currently is going to take the leap to measuring distortion/phase, etc.

That said, I have a behringer mic, speakerworkshop, a wallin jig, and a copy of TrueRTA somewhere around. While not extremely high precision equipment, It can get the job done. That said, it will be a matter of months before I can track it all down and have time to come out to set it up. I can guide you to where to get everything I have for not a huge investment. It'll be a huge stepup from a behringer RTA in terms of options.

Hi Dave, Not a problem. Actually I am rebuilding my Jensens. I am still using the EV woofer, but am going to the Pi Speakers conical midrange horn with the Emenence Delta 10" driver, and just today bought a pair of ESS AMT 1Cs to rob the Heil tweeter from. So I want to measure the new setup to determine the crossover needs. THe other thing I am thinking about is using an active xover, either tube or ss. I am in no rush. Cheers.

Funny, at the AK Fest '08 I spent a great deal of time watching our own Negotiableterms making such measurements with a McIntosh MA7000 and (forgive me I can't remember the speakers!) a fine looking and sounding pair of speakers. Actually, quite fascinating to watch.

Would something like a BSR EQ-3000 Equalizer with a mic be a rough place to start?
It allegedly does some white noise analysis so you can EQ to flat and should provide some crude measurements of what you're doing.
