There has been Kirsch, Omni Audio and now these in the past week.
"WOW, I'VE JUST REDUCED THESE FROM $2500 EACH TO $899 FOR ALL 4, YES, I SAID ALL 4 OF THESE TOP OF THE LINE, QUALITY SPEAKERS.... BUT HURRY - THE FIRST ONE WITH THE MONEY GETS THEM.... WILL NOT HOLD....
*****************4 each 4' heavy duty professional home theatre quality sound system towers. Theatre series... digital loud speaker TR-2800 Model, black towers. Top of the line, cost $2500 EACH, selling all 4 which are still in their original boxes, Never used for only $1800 TODAY!!! NOW ONLY $999 FOR ALL 4...************* Houston-CL
I hope these are not the scammers putting these on. Probably people who have been caught and trying to recoup their cash at someone elses expense.

They're still scammers. They got rooked and now they are trying to rook someone else. Turns previously honest people into crooks.

I often wonder if those people even realize they've been had. I bought a pair of white van tower speakers for $20 at the flea market and I must say, I've owned worse speakers. It might be easy for Joe Average to believe that these really are high quality.

Wow - I was about to ask what "white van speakers" are, but found a wikipedia page on the scam: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speakers
Unbelievable!

I have seen a large amount of DiVinci systems in the local CL. Whats interesting is one ad the other day was titled DaVinci speakers but in the ad said DiVinci. I'm assuming there is some legal issues with this. But it goes to show a person really needs to research these things before plunking down 900.00 or 2500.00 bucks. If you get scammed now days with the internet at your disposal, then shame on you :(
Hi HypnoToad
If a deal presents itself to good to be true, then it probably is.
They are looking for people who are not knowledgeable in audio equipment.
Educate yourself, you will thank youself in the long run.

Not only do I see sometimes 3 a day on CL, but now they are more creative. Like abbreviations for white van name brands, DaVi or DigAco. Even "my roomate moved out and left these great speakers with shipping straps still on the boxes" line ! ! !

...but honestly...why? Yes, they're crap and it is a ripoff, however it is a tangible product for sale at a price. Ya know, kinda like Bose... :D

Because they completely misrepresent the price of the product, just to fool people into buying them.Just lately I've seen one Definitive Sound Technology, which as an owner of Definitive Technology speakers, cheeses me off.

I flag them because the "electronics" section of CL in Atlanta is already overrun with scams for cracked cell phones, new shipments of Wiis, Chinese iPhone knockffs, etc. White van speakers may be a product for a price, but I see five or six ads for that crap a day. It's annoying. So, I don't really care if these schlocky businesses are given a fair shake. I flag them because they annoy me. It's just a bonus that they are inherently dishonest. Lots of these people are actually committing fraud.

How can it be a "professional" home theater system?

Speak for yourself, we have a popcorn stand and charge ten bucks a person to watch a movie in our basement theater.
Just kidding.

Craigslist is a great thing. I use it a lot to buy and sell. But scam artist may ruin it in time.
A new phrase, "Craigslist Speakers" to take the place of "White Van speakers". LOL

These are also showing up at the thrift stores, too, with the corresponding high price ($149-$199) on them because they use CL and eBay for pricing.
But even there, no one will touch them...

I admit I once saw a pair at a pawn shop here in utah, and spent 125 bucks on them, took em home and my AR's were way better. They looked really nice in my defense! lmao

Are these considered "white van" speakers:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ele/897680799.html
I did a google search on DPA 2.8 and came up with a scam article from 2005. Just curious 'cause the price is appealing. Just wish they were closer to where I live. :)

When I see white van speakers listed on CL, I send the poster an this email. You should do the same. They usually remove the listing, and send me back an email thanking me for the info:
I'll try not to be too harsh..................yet.
If you are really naive about these speakers, and don't know any better, I'll give you a chance to remove your listing from CL, before I report you to the State Attorney General's office. But, after the info I'm about to give you, if you still try to sell these speakers for more than $40, I'll make it my project to make sure you're arrested for fraud. Don't like doing this to people, but I won't allow the good people of NC to be ripped off by people trying to make a fast buck, on garbage! So, in case you really are naive about them, here is the info. Read the whole page.

I really hope you're not trying to rip people off, on purpose!
Here, also, is a list of known "white van" speaker brands. Notice the DiVinci's are in the list?

There was a pair of Denmark speakers at Goodwill the other week for $24.99 apiece. They were gone the next day.

I 'flag' them. Once I flagged a 'warning' post by mistake! :sigh: If 4 of us in each city flagged them on sight, they'd start to get real paranoid... :para:
emoxley I'd recommend a little caution about personalizing your response. Remember you are dealing with organized crooks. They may be simple scammers, or they may cross over into the violent crimes division if they perceive a threat to their source of easy dough.

Wow.
This thread brings me back... I had almost forgotten...
Waaay back, 18 yrs old, stopped in the grocery store parking lot by some desperate dudes...
left with a pair of big speakers for $50. I was psyched.
Older friends came over the same night, and asked right off the bat:
"Oh yeah. Driving a white van?"
Ahh, let the learning begun...
Old tricks die hard.

Ive seen a couple of listings where the poster was honest and said he got ripped off and was trying to sell them cheap. I've only seen one white van selling these speakers on the road lately and it was in a parking lot with out of state tags trying to sell them to someone who didnt speak English....I felt like saying something about them trying to rip off this guy, but 2 dudes in a van vs. 1 of me...:scratch2:

How can it be a "professional" home theater system?
"Professional," in adspeak, just means that a thing (whatever it is) is priced 67% higher than the identical thing in non-professional guise. The same goes for things advertised as "executive."
