What does "MAG" mean on the back of a receiver? It's a vintage piece made by Allied, that I'm assuming would have had some place to connect a TT. Is that what it's for, and do you have to have a special type of TT to use that input? I haven't seen the input, but am assuming it's RCA jacks?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Its for a Moving Magnet TT cartridge, ie, the type used by most turntables. Don't plug anything but a turntable into that input.

Thank you Zenith. So, my low line Technics SLBD22 will work ok on that input?

Also, since you're name is Zenith... let me ask you if you have ever heard of Zenith (AR, I think?) 4000 speakers? Saw some at a thrift, and they were heavy as a battleship, but they wanted $55 for them. Seemed high to me....

Ah, no problem. I never heard of those Zenith speakers. I'm more of a Zenith TV guy. But, if they were heavy and in working order, I bet they have at least a decent sound to them. Most vintage stuff was good quality, even if it wasnt the 'best'.

Your Technics would work fine in that input, granted that it has a MM cartridge in it. What kind of cartridge does it have?

All I know is it is a P-mount, and I believe it is stock replacement for the SLBD22. I thought I had a Shure cartridge here somewhere, but went looking yesterday, and could not find it. :(

Don't you hate it when you go looking for something you know you have, and can't find it? I've been looking for two remotes for six months, I know they're here somewhere, but I just can't turn them up. Pisses me off. One day when I'm not even looking they'll fall off a shelf and hit me in the head.

Yup. And I don't even have that much stuff, in fact I have very little stuff, laying around for it to get lost in the shuffle.

Did the same thing w/a TV remote not too long ago though. Ordered a replacement, then found it when we moved. DOH!

Kids in a household will do that. Look in between the cushions on the couch.

One of mine is married now, and the other is a professional student/musician/camp counselor living away from home.
