New owner of a Marantz TT a 6300. Now in the process of breathing life back into it. To me it looks like it was abused before, the cartridge was cocked and the weight maxed out..Stylus shot and covered with TT cigarette smoke residue.Had to fab up a new tonearm clasp .
the whole TT had to be reset even for level!
Now I need some question answered if possible,
First, The speed is real hard to stablizie, Is there a way to fine tune it at the motor? Seems to jump around alot.
Second , On the strobe light bands which ones are 45 and 33 1/3?
Do have an owners manual but no service manual to guide me for now.
Any help would be great!

There is discussion of this so a search will give you good answers, but they all relate to using Deoxit on the speed control pots. This is easily done after taking the bottom off the unit.

Cleaned them first off, this seems to be more or a jumping around or pulsating . It will lock for a fraction of a second then speed up.
What mark on the platter do I need to calabrate the 33 1/3 to the 45 seems to be the bottom. The 45 does lock onto this one and stay steady.

When you say cleaned them off, do you mean that you opened up the base and sprayed DeOxit on the innards of the controls and then worked them a fair amount?
As to which marks to use on the platter, isn't there a label on top of the strobe housing that illustrates which are which?

Yes , the two pots under the TT bottom. Worked them back and forth.
The 45 seems to work OK , I would like to know what's the 33 1/3 and the 45 row of marks on the platter?
Got it going with a new stylus just now and listening to it and it seems to be steady and right , adjusted the speed to the row thats second from the top .
Boy its just touchy!

the strobe rings on the edge of the platter are from the top
33-1/3 50 Hz
33-1/3 60 Hz (US uses this one)
45 50 Hz
45 60 Hz (US uses this one)

Blue Shadow,
Thanks for the info , :thmbsp:
The rings you gave were the ones I'd already ended up using when doing the adjustments. I think it's just real sensitive when dialing in.
Plus the fact of not knowing the correct band to use it made it even worst. I know for a fact that using the 50 cycle band for ref. it will not dial in on 60 cycle trust me...I think thats were the pulsating was coming from.
Working fine now on my third LP with no problems and speed is locked on.
