Hi all, this is my first post & I hope you don't think it idiotic.
1st question. I have an old (90's) Majik-1 amp with phono stage set to MM. Does anyone out there know how to change it to MC? 2nd question. I use the Majik-1 amp, Karik CD player, Sondek LP12 tt with Valhalla power supply. What speakers will go well with that combination? I currently use a pair of B&W 601 s1 speakers.
3rd question. What DIY can I do to upgrade any of these units?
I was a Royal Naval helicopter electical mechanic, so I know a bit about electrical safety, & I am unlikely to fry myself.
Thanks in anticipation, Tez

[QUOTE=dalihavidson;2104634] 1st question. I have an old (90's) Majik-1 amp with phono stage set to MM. Does anyone out there know how to change it to MC?

1 - If I remember right you have to connect emitter of Q11 (FMMT493) to R50 (22K), i.e. to put on +15v on R50. This will switch FET3.

2nd question. I use the Majik-1 amp, Karik CD player, Sondek LP12 tt with Valhalla power supply. What speakers will go well with that combination? I currently use a pair of B&W 601 s1 speakers.

2 - This is a nice speakers for the price. Very good partner to Magik will be Linn Tukan. I think you can still find them on e-bay or wherever else. There are models with silk or ceramic twiters.

3rd question. What DIY can I do to upgrade any of these units?

3 - Well... one really good DIY is to change in Majik two main capacitors Elna RE3 10,000uf x 63v on Cornell Dubilier 12,000uf 63-80v they will suits well (35 x 60 mm ) and sounds great.
