If you haven't already, join the Magnavox group at yahoo.

Got a schematic? I'll check my Maggie stuff, but I don't think I have that particular one. Maybe Tom B. will chime in with the Sams.

Already figured that out. This is a short description of what to do. Shouldn't be anything else required.

I'm listening to Sixcats' (phono stage bypassed) 185 Amp as I type this, and it does sound sweet once recapped - still havent done the 20 uF cathode caps yet, but it's still a great performer.

the nice thing about these vs the smaller 88-chassis, is the power transformer is about twice the size, its got a choke in the power supply, bigger chassis to allow more flexability 'under the hood' and, last but not least, it uses 12AX7 istead of 6EU7's - the tube rolling possibilities are ENDLESS :thmbsp:

if you take Gordon's mods step by step, it's an easy job . . . I also bypassed the balance control, added a switch, fuse, pilot light, and beefy binding posts.

hard to beat this amp for under a few hundred bucks . . .

Hope you're right about this being the amp in that "new" console I just bought. If so, I suppose it will replace my 8802.....:scratch2:

I got my fingers crossed for you

by the way - I'm TOTALLY stealing your signature quote :para:

"Jack of all Trades, Master of None
Searching for Sonic Nirvana..."

Once my wife gets home from work I can snag the camera cable and upload some pix of the (finally finished) Sixcats Special . . . I changed the speaker terminals, and added front mounted power switch, fuse, and pilot light for my meathanded friend (heh heh). Also dressed the wires a little better . . .

I'm using it right now to bi-amp a EV 12TRXB on one of my JE Labs Open Baffles . . . really nice . . . I've been spoiled with the dynamics of my line arrays and Karlsons . . the JE Labs OB's are more 'polite' I guess you'd say. Thedy run out of steam if you try to crank them, but at 1/2 - 3/4 volume they are KILLER for jazz, vocals, classical, and acoustic stuff. I'm also leaning towards liking (GASP!) my RCA console 12's w/ whizzers better than the EV. I wonder how the later (orange surround) 12TRXB's compare to my vintage :scratch2:
