Has anyone else noticed the way they are producing the shows these days. they seem much more directed and edited with a more film like approach. Personally I can't stand it. The old way was much more approachable and you felt like you were a part of the process.

I tend to watch a lot less these days as I feel I'm being talked at instead of cooked and talked with. Silly, but true.

My wife and I agree. We used to watch a lot but now we have only a few shows we catch occassionally; Alton Brown, Tyler Florence, Iron Chef, Dinner Impossible and the Challenges. I like Unwrapped myself since I'm the curious one. My wife doesn't care for it.

This is kind of why I never liked Emeril. It always seemed like he had a bad case of Jay Leno-envy or something. It was too much of a TV show and not enough real cooking.

Grab your spice weasel and Bam! Kick it up a notch!

Alton Brown has a very substantial show. Lots to learn there. The other shows are pretty much worthless. I watch to gain information, not to be entertained. Its a cooking show, for crying out loud.

Yes, his show is pretty much the only one I watch these days.

Anyone catch Alton's latest project, Feasting on Waves (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ab/0,2857,FOOD_26776,00.html)? I really like the loose open format and his getting the entire crew involved. Similar to what you see on Dirty Jobs. Doesn't have to be perfect - just have fun and keep it entertaining.

I miss The Galloping Gourmet (http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1482/whatever-happened-to-the-galloping-gourmet). Somehow the thought of drinking yourself wobbly and using clarified butter and cream appeals to me.

I can find very little style in it, and even less substance.

I like good eats. Loved when Alton was on the road with all his bike buddies.
