Well, the September SMAC is here, and I am looking forward to it.

Apart from the stuff I have (listed in posts above), there will also be two other amps:

1. A 6CL6 based Spud Amp by Jerry Curtis (available through Hawthorne Audio). Some of you heard this amp last year at my house. This is a new one, with beefier output transformers.

2. Jerry is also bringing a 2A3 amplifier. I do not have details.

Also, Darrel Hawthorne of Hawthorne Audio, makers of the Silver Iris speakers might be attending. I have not got a confirmation yet, but I am hoping he will be able to come. Some of you may like to chat with him. If he comes, he will bring with him the low-frequency augmentor Augie, with a Rhythmik plate amplifier.

(Perhaps, I should make a disclaimer here that I am not affiliated with Hawthorne Audio in any financial way).

Any SMAC'ers bringing any equipment? How about the 6LU8 amplifier, Squid, Keg?

Oh my, I could bring a whole slew of gear. Here's what's tentatively on the table right now:

SEP EL84 RH84 amp
SEUL 6LU8 compactron "Wigwam" amp
Passive preamp with Slagle autoformers
I hear Jeff is bringing back the Loctal Hagerman Cornet I built for the 'Fest
JBL L100 "bass bins" for Keg's EWG demonstration

I am looking forward to the meet a lot, I ope to be over early and staying late! All the time I usually spend driving to these things will be better spent!

Ashok,

Thanks for the invitation. I'm looking forward to seeing the gang this afternoon.

The 2a3 was designed and hand built by Jef Larson. It is a D3a pentode driven 2a3.

It was my pleasure having everyone over. I had a great time. Plus I was the lucky winner of a $20 gift certificate from Soundstage Direct. Thanks to Grumpy on that one and to Kegger for pulling my number out of the box. First time I have ever won a raffle.

I will have some pictures soon. I think Ed was clicking some too.

Hey, it was great to meet so many of you and to get to chat and learn more about this stuff. Very cool ... particularly impressed with some performance details of the Hawthorne speakers and the homebrew tube stuff.

Thanks to Ashok for hosting and I'll try to make some future meets!

Thank you Ashok for hosting another cool SMAC meet. :thmbsp:

Great time, great people as usual and some really, really cool gear. I regret not being able to talk to Darrel about the Hawthorne speaks - great sound from those Silver Iris' and some very interesting open baffle? subwoofers.

We had a lot of gear there and leaving at 6pm meant I didn't get to hear half of it. Pretty impressed with Keg's Econo Waveguides through Squid's JBL L100 woofs - an impressive and economical combination.

Musical highlights for me were Modest Mouse and Ashok's Brazilian jazz - forgot artist's name

Thanks to everyone for making SMAC a successful audio group.

Cheers

Yes another great outing, thanks for hosting!

I do really really like those Hawthornes! There was a bunch of great gear there as well
as the usual crowd of cool peoples! Everything sounded nice on Ashok's setup he had.

-----------------

At times the Econowave setup sounded decent but overall I was a bit bumed at there
performance, with my bass bins it sounds quite different/better, not sure the problem.

The JBL bins had plenty of bass but just didn't integrate correctly with the wave tops.

Agreed on the EWG performance. It was a fun experiment, tho!

Ashok was a great host, totally opened his house up to us crazies!

Woah, someone other than me liked the Modest Mouse? Don't encourage me!
