A pair of Klipsch Quartets has just become available in my area. Would these be a good match with a refurbished Eico HF-81 amp? Currently running amp with a pair of Dynaco A-25's. Is $300 about right for these?

I'm going to save you from more spousal abuse because you keep buying more speakers.

Just let me know where they are, and I'll let you know how they work with tubes.:D

They are in Frankfort (CL). Never got a return e-mail so I assume they are gone.
Hey, and what do you mean about that "more speakers" crack...I only bought two pair this week! :D

A...Would these be a good match with a refurbished Eico HF-81 amp?...

That would be an understatement (IMNSHO). But the HF-81 would benefit from a rehab (again, IMNSHO).

The HF-81 uses ceramic coupling caps, so it's one vintage amp that does not a priori need new coupling caps. That said, I liked the sound of mine quite a bit better with 716P "Orange Drops" than the ceramics.

I'd try to be patient and hold out for some Cornwalls or LaScalas to match with that fine Eico amp. A pair may come up on Barter Town or I've seen Cornwalls on our local CL a couple times per year.

Just a quick thought, my friend.

Ed, I ran my HF-81 on Forte's (slightly bigger brother to the Quartets) for a good while, and it was a beauteous thing. I wouldn't rule the Quartets out as very good candidates. Nor the Forte's, for that matter.

The Eico was totally restored by Craig at NOSValves. I picked it up at the AKfest this year.

Yea, I'm going to wait. I bought a pair of KLH model sixes today. I'd like to try them out with the Eico as well.

Sorry... for some reason, I thought your first post said unrefurbished. duh.

After the rehab I had wanted to use this as my main system. But along came a Pioneer SX-1280, so up to the master BR the Eico went. If and when I get a pair of efficient older speaks I imagine I'll switch things around.
