Hi All-

Did some searching here and found some threads-

I have a chance to pickup an OMS-5aII at a flea market for $50. My only concern with it is its ability to read CD-R's, and the guy said I could bring some in and play away. Unfortunately when I tried- the switch to open door wasn't working so he's gonna fix that.

So I can get back there in 2 weeks and play with the thing. I lusted after one of these back when they were new(hard to believe it was 20 years ago)- and now if the thing works- I can get one.

I want an older unit that could play CD-R's- as my Yamaha CDX-810U is challenged in that regard.

Thoughts-

Chris

I have a couple OMS-4A's and a OMS-7. I believe they will both play some CD-R's. The OMS-7 is very similar to the OMS-5aII . Believe it or not my Yamaha CDX-510u will play whatever I put in it everytime.

Thx Avionic - the guy said he would also look at my 810U... also said hardest color to play is purple disks!!!! I have a huge number of Memorex and Maxell Colored CD's- but underside is silver. Also have a number of the Verbatim mini LP series- all have issues. I cleaned top and under lense last night, and lubed up the sleds and gears...didn't help.

Is alignment of lense an old wives tale??? I remember hearing that as an issue years ago but never gave it any creedence. I'd rather have the 810U running CD-R's because I have had that since new back in 1988.
