Former member of the mothers of invention and
frontman of little feat put out his only solo recording
in 1979 titled-Thanks,I'll eat it here.
He died of a massive heart attack while touring for it.

A good buddy turned me onto this along time ago
and I recently got a copy on CD.
I forgot how much I like this recording,It full of all
kinds of guest musicians,Some remakes of others songs and a few songwriting masterpieces.
If you havent heard this,I highly recommend it
and if you do have it,Maybe give it a spin :thmbsp:

Hi Mark,

I know I listened to this recently - yep, Vinyl Only Spin List thread, 9/1. Great stuff. :thmbsp::music:

I read his wikipedia entry, very sad to read of his sudden death that year, and the tributes done by fellow musicians including a song to his daughter, written by Jackson Browne:

Jackson Browne memorialized George in his 1980 song "Of Missing Persons", written about George and addressed to his daughter, Inara George

Very good album, though Lowell was in desperately bad shape by this point and only wrote a few originals. Damn shame, because at its best, it portended some good things for the future, with or without Little Feat.

:thmbsp::thmbsp: It's on my regular listening list (33lp and cd).
I also like China White/Fool for a Cigarette and Sneaking Sally through the Alley (with Robert Palmer). Recently picked up Lightning Rod Man cd. Very interesting mix of music. Some Zappa, some British "Mersey Beat", followed up with Little Feat stuff . . . truly eclectic :dunno:

got's me a milk crate full of joy
Lowell and the gang, has been through it all

Likely they should bury me with this one

I bought the album after work. Pretty good. It reminded me of Boz Scaggs. Especially the first song.

Great album. I've been listening to it since it came out. 20 Million Things, Easy Money, What Do You Want The Girl To Do? stand out as I think about the album. LG was a great player of course, but a really great singer. I had a picture of him a friend took at a concert in Atlanta taped to the inside of my guitar case for osmosis or inspiration, but the bugs ate it when I was in Honduras.

Great band...

There was a woman in Georgia didn't feel just right
She had fever all day and chills at night
Now things got worse, yes a serious bind
At times like this it takes a man with such style I cannot often find
A doctor of the heart and a doctor of mind

If you like country with a boogie beat he's the man to meet
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet he can't be beat
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the Rock and Roll doctor's advice

It's just a country town but patients come
From Mobile to Moline from miles around
Nagodoches to New Orleans
In beat-up old cars or in limousines
To meet the doctor of soul, he's got his very own thing

Two degrees in be-bop, a PHD in swing
He's the master of rhythm he's a rock and roll king

If you like country with a boogie beat he's the man to meet (he's the man to meet)
If you like the sound of shufflin' feet he can't be beat (I say he can't be beat)
If you... If you wanna
If you wanna feel real nice, just ask the Rock and Roll doctor's advice

the amsterdam clips of little feat (on Utube) show how buzzed these guys could get,
and still play.

:/

here is another from the 70's timeframe...

Vinyl of course! $2.95 at my favorite record store. Also picked up Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward the guys were suggesting in the '80s thread. I also bought Poi Dog Ponderings - Circle Around the Sun. Just because it caught my eye. $1.95 each.

All very different, but good!

Do you know who did that first song What do you want the girl to do, first? Boz of Lowell?

Thanks Mark!

Nice prices on the vinyl Carl,I like Poi dog!
Allen toussaint wrote the song,Bonnie raitt changed it to
"What do you want the Boy to do" 1975
Then Boz covered in on "Silk degrees" 1976
Then Lowell in 1979.
Elvis costello in the early 2000's did a version also.
I like Lowells version of Rickie lee jones "Easy money"!

Neither, it an Allen Toussaint song

Boz covered it on his '76 release Silk Degrees
Lowell on this '79 release

I'll always be grateful to Lowell George for having written one of my all-time favourite songs ever, particularly as covered by others: Willin'

The Byrds' version and Linda Ronstadt's are seminal in my opinion. I'll have to check this album out.

I'm partial to Boz's version. I played Silk Degrees to death. Same goes for Easy Money.

But it's nice to hear another take on it!

A great album, I never understood why it wasn't more popular. Perhaps songs titles like "Himmler's Ring" diminished its appeal in the Industry.

Sad to have lost him so early, but what a great way to go out. Too many artists leave dregs as their remembrance.
